Red Cross Activities at Barstow Grammar School

Accomplishments of the Barstow Junior Red Cross for 1928 1929 include a November candy sale raising fifteen dollars sent to Florida for playgrounds and hot lunches, Christmas boxes for Guam, and food clothing for the needy in Mexico. Grades six to eight sent boxes and portfolios to Spain Belgium Sweden Japan and the Veterans home. A Washington Lincoln birthday program supported the Red Cross fund and girls planned a hospital wardrobe and a play for the 8 Health.

Progress at Calico with Zenda Mine

The Zenda Gold Mining Company at Calico reports the shaft reached about 355 feet with work progressing on the 340 foot level. A 25 foot square station exists at the 240 level where ore was found, prompting a deeper step. If the drift to the 340 foot station continues apace, miners expect to strike ore again in April, with a larger pump planned for installation and a possible move of the mill from Caliente after assessing ore values and volume. Annual officers and directors meet in New York on March 11, and stock demand suggests listing on the New York Exchange after the meeting. The company is financed by several capitalists.
