Ladies Night At 20-30 Club Meeting

Seventy five attend the 20-30 Glob meeting on Tuesday night. Mr. Perdy served as speaker delivering forty minutes of comedy while the audience responded with smiles and laughs. The 20 30 orchestra led by Al Henderson played with Van Amen on piano. Members contributed to the kitty as President Davies urged support.

Prominent visitors from Los Angeles visit desert

Mr and Mrs Rowe Sanderson from Los Angeles spent a weekend in the desert, staying at the Harvey House after a trip via Mint Canyon Palmdale and Victorville. A Saturday sandstorm disrupted their excursion to the Rand mining district on the way to Randsburg, then they returned to Los Angeles Sunday. Sanderson is president of the California Truck Company and the Metropolitan Warehouse Company.

Benefit Bridge Party At Rose Inn By Barstow Club

A Barstow Woman's Club bridge event drew a crowd of ladies at the Rose Inn. Score cards and decorations followed a red white and blue patriotic theme with high scores awarded to Mesdames Gouldin Lester and W W Bagby. Nellie Copper received a decorative pillow and Mrs Robert White crafted the score cards. Refreshments included fruit salad in gelatin hot rolls and coffee. The organizing committee is praised for a successful afternoon though the total receipts were not learned.

The A. A. True residence faced two close calls this week. Initially coal gas buildup in a heater caused an explosion that enveloped the room corner. Later Mrs. True was cooking when shoe string potatoes and a kettle of grease boiled over without further incident.

California Nevada Kiwanis Lieutenant Governor Harold Tiernan visited Barstow for the weekly meeting where Lloyd Tiernan welcomed him as speaker. Airplane crashes into power lines near Barstow during solo flights

Cadet McElwee suffered skull fracture and leg injuries after his plane struck Southern Sierras Power lines while flying west along the Old Trails Highway. The crash, at about 3 PM, damaged multiple towers and forced emergency power shifts to keep service to San Bernardino area. Cadet Hummel escaped serious injuries though his plane burned after triggering a 2200 volt line and a 32,000 volt transformer near Victorville Bryman district.

Rich Ore Found in Hirst Deep Calico Mining

The Zenda Gold Mining Company, a New York firm, began deep mining in Calico. Core drilling showed extensive ore including a 40 ounce body. They plan a 500 foot shaft with water at 300 feet and intend to 340 level and beyond, with a 350 ton daily mill and cyanide tanks. An additional 1000 foot shaft is planned, with stockholders meeting March 11.

The group played bridge at Mrs Deskins home with awards of bead necklaces a fancy apron. Saturday a Calico trip followed by tea at the Rose Inn and a prize for Mre Warren Bagby. An evening at Mrs Deskins home concluded the visit with out-of-town guests returning Sunday.
