Mrs McCabe Dies From Heat Prostration in East
Miss Bernice White and May Ellen McCabe of Los Angeles traveled to Logan Iowa for the summer. Reports from Los Angeles say Katherine McCabe, 80, died of heat prostration in Omaha where the temperature hit 98 degrees. E L White believes Mrs McCabe was Mary Ellen McCabe's grandmother. The 98 degree heat in the East outstrips the dry desert heat of 110 in Los Angeles.

New Nursing Education Program Opens at Local College
San Bernardino Valley Union Junior College and San Bernardino County General Hospital unveil a joint School of Nursing offering a twenty eight month program. Students split time between college coursework in anatomy bacteriology chemistry hygiene and nursing history and hospital instruction in bedside care procedures and bandaging. Second year focuses on nutrition cookery obstetrics pediatrics and ENT diseases with psychiatry at Patten State Hospital. Admission each September, graduates must pass the State Board to become registered nurses.

Land Improvement Plans Near Hinkley Valley
FE Shepard of Lamanda Park, owner of over 200 acres in Hinkley Valley, plans to install a pump and clear about 80 acres for alfalfa north of the Speth ranch along the highway. Fishing in Bishop and Owens Valley areas remains excellent with reported trout catches at June and Gull Lakes as well as Mammoth and Silver Lakes, per the Touring department of the National Automobile Club.

High School District Debt Snapshot for San Bernardino County
A California Taxpayers association study shows San Bernardino high school districts held 1928-1929 bonded debt totaling 3,375,175 dollars, up from 1,924,125 in 1925. Per pupil debt fell to 479.93, and county rankings placed sixth in total debt and seventh per pupil. Los Angeles saw the largest debt decrease. Several counties had no bonds, and Barstow Union High School reported no indebtedness. Various local notes mention a shopper and a San Bernardino medical case.

Half sisters meet after twenty five years in Barstow reunion
Mrs J Lamont daughter of Mrs J Wilson left for Conneaut Ohio after two months with her daughter in law Mrs Rachel Lamont and friend Mrs Loretta Miller who drove from Ohio. They spent time in Barstow and southern California and met half sister Mrs J E Van Rhyn nee Ruby Wilson as well as half brother Harold Wilson. A picnic reunion was held at the ranch home of Mr and Mrs J F Van Rhyn west of Barstow before departure.
