Suspicious Youth Is Jailed After Car Search
R A Moore a Barstow area deputy arrested a young man described as suspicious on Saturday. He drove a sedan that, when searched, yielded a quantity of goods including candies tobaccos flashlights and soft drinks all in original wrappings. Three guns were found in the car. The youth gave the name Davis Chicago age 15 but appeared older. He was taken into San Bernardino.

Large Corporations Preparing For Growth In Barstow
Barstow will gain a 22 000 gallon water tank on the old river bridge landmark as the third reservoir in the system. The city already has 200 000 gallons on Second and White Streets and 500 000 gallons on Bear Valley road, totaling 722 000 gallons. A 16 inch well north of the river bridge with turbin pump will feed a new 12 inch line to the new storage tank and connect to the Harvey Trouse main for north Barstow. A booster pump will boost service, with annual improvements expected between 15 000 and 20 000 dollars. Former manager Kent is supervising the installation for American State Water Service Co. The water, power, telephone, telegraph, oil, railway firms and others are investing toward Barstow’s future, anticipated to begin once Boulder Dam legislation passes, while the Highway Department advances the Barstow to state line route for heavy Boulder Dam traffic. Contracts for the eastern highway section have been let.

Desert tragedy near Cadiz leaves two dead
Salvadore Moreno and his elderly Ventura mother died of thirst after their car bogged in Blythe cut-off sands near Cadiz. Their bodies were buried on site after a five hour effort by deputies. A second party reached Cadiz and reported the tragedy. Deputy Farley blocked the road to prevent further incidents.

Power Substation Under Construction In Barstow
Ground was broken this week on a new 32000 dollar transformer substation at Fifth and Hutchison Streets by Southern Sierras Power Company. R O Brown of Riverside oversees, with Carl De Wolf handling foundations. About two months to complete. The station will convert 33000 volt lines from Victorville to 2200 volts for Barstow distribution, handling about 1500 HP, more than double the present capacity. 30000 pounds of structural steel will be erected. The facility will be modern and ready for future growth, and the old station will be dismantled after completion.

Santa Fe Plans Two New Rail Lines Across West
The Santa Fe Railroad will begin 110 miles from Felt Oklahoma to Calmor New Mexico and 220 miles from Las Anamas Colorado to Amarillo Texas.
