Fatal Barstow Randsburg Crash Kills Mrs Marquette

A collision on the highway between Barstow and Randsburg on the evening of the 10th killed Mrs Floy Marquette and injured Mrs Emma Robinson. Coroner’s jury cited excessive speed as cause but deemed the crash unavoidable as two cars crowded the road. Funeral services were held in Barstow with burial by cremation in San Bernardino.

Barstow Yermo Road Bids Open Next Wednesday

Sacramento reports bid openings are set for next Wednesday to build a highway from the river bridge at Barstow to one mile east of Yermo. The state sues property owners resisting right of way, naming Mertie M. Haws, Bank entities, Ethel M. Clark, Clara Pattie, Majorie P. Negus, and others as defendants. The route from the state line through Barstow to Vermo is being upgraded with oil and hard surface for about 20 miles east of Yermo.

Yermo Team Wins Indoor Baseball Thriller

The Barstow Laundry offered a dollar’s value for a home run in an Indoor baseball game Thursday evening. Earl Johnson hit the home run for the 20-30 Club, playing with the Yermo team. The final score was 18 to 20 in favor of Yermo.

Birthdays Highlight Two 20-30 Club Members

Two members Americo Rizzardini aged 23 and Le Roy Phelps aged 29 celebrated birthdays at the 20-30 Club meeting on Tuesday. A cake with two candles framed the event as members pledged to raise 200 for the Boy Scouts financing committee and planned next week’s meeting at the Rose Inn with transport at 6:30.

Another Appointment by Supervisor Doran

Walker Jones of Victorville was appointed deputy county horticultural inspector for the region north of the mountain, succeeding the late John Christensen. The move follows several Doran appointments in his short time in office, including Mr and Mrs C W Brockman of Adelanto named supervisors of the Cajon Camp to improve its appeal as a county asset. Barstow helped with a cement table, and many Southern California towns contributed, with lodges adding outposts for members.

Wife of Johannesburg Agent Dies After Cajon Grade Crash

Supervisor A L Doran and County Highway Commissioner Jim Cole witnessed a car plunge 200 feet down the Cajon grade. Mrs F W Ross, wife of Johannesburg agent, died of internal injuries after being taken to a San Bernardino hospital. The Haas family and Mr Ross survived.

Barstow High School Buys First Bus For District

Barstow Union High School trustees approved purchasing a school bus and awarded transport contracts for outlying districts. Helendale district will be served by L. G. Palmer, Harper Lake-Hinkley by Pat Belleveau, and Barstow Garage will supply a bus for Ludlow. Transportation for Yermo pupils joining at Daggett was not awarded.

The State Highway Department is painting center lines from San Bernardino to Daggett to keep drivers on their side. White dots four inches square mark curves and straightaways to warn which side to travel, aiming to cut head on collisions and lower the county death rate.

Annual Railway Picnic Planned for September

Joseph Zanini, 63, a Switzerland native who had lived in California 40 years, died at his Big Bear home. Survived by wife Mary Anna Zanini and brothers Pat and Julius. Floremal Mill to Begin Operation Near River Bridge

Power line extends to hill west of Barstow

O M Lowell will gain a pumping plant on his hill west of Barstow as Southern Sierras Power Company extends lines to illuminate the Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce sign on the west approach. Nearby ranchers Foglesong and McGowan, close to Lowell, may also receive motor power for pumps in the months ahead.
