In the Oar Silver Mining District activity continues at the Kelly mine with five cars of high grade ore dispatched this week though staffing remains lean compared with three months earlier. The column notes silver market upgrade, Pittman act price support, and syndicate speculation influencing London and New York prices.
Desert baseball notes report Barstow overwhelmed Maroc 18 to 1 on the Barstow diamond Sunday. Crase was replaced by Roberto after 6th inning as Barstow led 14 to 1. Capp hit two home runs. Souis and Bud stood out. Sperry bets Barstow can’t win at Victorville on July 5.
Hinkley prepares a basket dinner ice cream and afternoon entertainment for Independence Day Monday July 5 with fireworks and music in the evening. The town buzzes with patriotism while cows mourn calves shipped the previous day causing a noisy all night disturbance as residents slept through earthquakes and storms.
On Monday Barstow will be deserted except for switch engine crews. Victorville plans to entertain an immense crowd where Barstowites will turn loose Fourth of July enthusiasm and patriotism.
About one hundred Barstow supporters will travel to Victorville on Monday July 5 by a special train car attached to No 7 for the return journey. Those wishing to join should consign their names to Lt Henderson for reservations. Victorville promises a hospitable day with bronco busting roping and races for all ages and lunch baskets urged.
H O Eaton representing Channel Co wholesale grocers of Los Angeles arrived Monday to Needles Blythe area. His car stood on Main Street Barstow at 8 30 pm Monday when two grips were taken one held a suit and apparel the other a tan leather brief case with price book orders and sales records. Constable Harris investigates. A reward is offered for recovery.
