Injunction Ends Grady Lease Work in Randsburg Area

June 22 report says a strike on the Grady lease sparked injunction proceedings and halted development as Kelly mine officials block shafts and drifts on June 19. Grady, in Bakersfield, cannot be reached for comment. the mine superintendent declines to discuss, noting court order halted work. Grady has invested about $20,000. Rumors swirl amid a labor shortage, with no dividends from King Solomon’s era.

State Agencies Oppose Higher Highway Bond Interest

The State Automobile Association and the Automobile Club of Southern California announce opposition to any rise in interest on the State Highway bonds. They will launch an engineers inquiry to test whether current construction suffices for now and future needs. Two Ladies Miss Santa Fe Train At Barstow

Two women from Los Angeles on Santa Fe No 18 bound for Phoenix inadvertently boarded a Los Angeles heading train after supper in San Bernardino. They discovered the mix up when the conductor collected tickets, were kept at Barstow until No 22 arrived, and were pleased to find their train waiting. More such incidents are noted as the rail line’s popularity in California grows.

Caldwell McQuinn Couple Headed for Desert Home

James H. McQuinn and his bride Miss Margarette Marie Caldwell left Los Angeles for San Francisco Tuesday after marriage in Los Angeles on June 22 1920. They plan to settle in the Desert at Borosolyay after a honeymoon in San Francisco. McQuinn is well known in Daggett where he lived for years.

Earthquake Strikes Inglewood Damaging Grammar School

An earthquake at 5 15 p m Monday jolted Inglewood a Los Angeles suburb causing $50 000 to $75 000 in damage. Several buildings were badly damaged with the Inglewood grammar school most seriously affected, its walls cracked and roof caved in in multiple spots likely to condemn the structure.

Directors Named at Devore Farm Bureau Picnic

Farm Bureau members named as directors at large at their annual picnic at the Devore ranch. Named were George Siemon of Hinkley W. W. Coke of Ontario Irving Davis of Redlands and H. B. White of Chino. Officers to be chosen after the new year with fiscal year aligning to the calendar. About 300 attended the event with basket lunches under the trees and coffee and ice cream served.

LA Auto Dealer Dies on Desert Train Ride

J E McKeever auto dealer aged 34 of 1135 South Main Street Los Angeles died on a train near Amboy after drinking water at Needles while en route from Phoenix to Los Angeles. Partner Mark Betsworth was with him. Dr McCoy of Ludlow attended. The body was let off at Ludlow and shipped to Los Angeles with Undertakers White and Platt Barstow arranging the funeral.

Phillippo Beanyan to Sing in Victorville Opera Benefit

Phillippo Beanyan, noted singer and brother to Victorville’s Methodist minister, will perform at a grand opera concert Saturday evening July 3. Proceeds support the Victorville Methodist church and the event costs one dollar admission. The district choir and townsfolk invite the public to attend.

The University of Southern California creates a College of Commerce and Business Administration as an integral department to prepare students for business careers. It will confer the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and will hold a professional status akin to the College of Law. Wilson will open the Democratic convention by long distance telephone.

Barstow Train Yard Accident Claims Inspector

Chester White, a Barstow car inspector, is killed when a string of freight cars crashes into a northbound train. Karl Kalie and F. J. Mulvana, Bakersfield residents, are injured. White’s body is shipped to Michigan for interment. Mrs White and others accompany the burial party.

Hunters warned after near misses at Waterman ranch pasture

Notice reports a valuable colt shot two weeks ago at Waterman ranch pasture. This week a shot landed within three feet of a horse, stampeding the herd, and another rifle shot passed over Miss Waterman. Hunters are warned to avoid shooting without knowing bullet landings and not to shoot into stock fields.
