Borate Boom Near Barstow Promises Big Payroll Growth

Report of a high grade borate discovery west of Barstow fueling plans for a large payroll in Mojave River Valley. Shaft about 600 feet deep, hoist delivering borax to New York and Wilmington, Los Angeles. Location ~35 miles west of Barstow near San Bernardino Kern line, with extends toward Harper Lake and Muroc. A stub line contract to Santa Fe railroad to replace trucks issued, and prior shaft 300 feet deep nearby shipped borax to Los Angeles by truck two years ago.

Baker Gold Mines Prospect Near Baker

Topping has unearthed a three foot vein of gold bearing ore near Baker on the Salt Lake railway and Arrowhead highway sixty miles northeast of Barstow. The ore assays 197 dollars per ton and large samples are on display at Henderson and Nicklin in Barstow. The Baker district shows rich porphyry formation with little prior mining but strong prospects for spring development by financier Mr. Topping and his associates.

Kennedy family shipping Mojave non-metallics to Los Angeles

John Kennedy and his father ship non-metallics from Mojave River Valley to Los Angeles. They mine Gannister rock near Hicks station for fire brick and ship about 300 tons per month. They also export red porphyry from Newberry Springs for roofing and clay from Cady Mountains. a lime rock deposit near Barstow could support a cement plant.

Tom Kiralla was shot this morning by a Mexican who had been drinking bootleg. The two men trafficking merchandise with Mexicans were in a customer’s home when the drunken assailant drew a revolver and fired. Kiralla was wounded near the heart and treated at Cunningham Pharmacy before being moved to a physician’s office.

Vast borate deposits found near Barstow alter man discovers crystals

A large pure borate deposit near Barstow, located thirty five miles west and thirty miles south of Randsburg, is attracting development. Fifty to one hundred workers will be employed as mining expands, with a three mile railroad spur planned to Borate siding. The find, first discovered by a farmer ten years ago, could shift borax shipping to Wilmington, Los Angeles, and New York. John Ryan and Corkhill led the development after acquiring surrounding lands. the farmer who found the deposit sold his holdings and vanished from the record.
