Barstow, visiting Victorville last Friday, won a hard fought boys basketball game due to superior shooting. Starting quintet for Barstow included Shotwell Kerr Topping Melton Wetenhall. The halftime score was 11 to 4, with Barstow controlling play in the second half and substituting frequently. Referee was Mr. Kelly. a good crowd attended. Next games: Jan 28 at Needles, Feb 4 at home against Needles.

Burial for Ray Garret After Prolonged Ill Health
Ray Garret died Monday at his mother's home after three years of illness. Born September 26, 1900 in Johnson City Tennessee he lived in Texas then California before returning to Barstow in September. He worked in the Santa Fe baggage room until health failed and died after nine months in a Banning hospital and subsequent tuberculosis from pneumonia. Funeral services were held Tuesday at home with Rev McRae officiating. He leaves his mother two sisters Stella Foley Olive Garret and four brothers. Community sympathy goes to the family.

State highway worker dies of heart attack in Newberry
W C Harp 69, a state highway commission maintenance employee at Newberry, was found dead by fellow workers late yesterday afternoon. Death believed due to heart trouble. He had been dead only a short time when found. Deputy Coroner Emmett Waters left for Newberry to conduct an inquest.

California Mineral Production in 1926 Advances
California’s 1926 mineral production, valued at about 456.4 million dollars, rose roughly 24 million from 1925 led by petroleum and cement. Despite an 8 million barrel drop in crude oil, higher prices since March 1925 boosted value. Gold yield fell about 1.49 million, silver dropped with the California Ranch Mine, copper declined led by Shasta County, zinc rose about 50 percent, and quicksilver prices climbed though output fell due to mine closures. Twenty three ladies from the Methodist church held an all day meeting at the Mission last Thursday.
