Mrs. Mabel Deskins of Moor Park travels with her sister Mrs. B F Gauldin from Los Angeles, plans to remain until Gauldin regains strength after a recent operation.
Mrs. Charley Wright returned from Bakersfield after a brief visit. Attorney Charley Anderson of Los Angeles visited his father Dr. B. C. Anderson. Clarence Reynolds and wife returned from Los Angeles. Reynolds works at the round house. A. A. True and Mrs. True with Mrs. Worts drove to Los Angeles for a few days. Beimer was summoned to San Bernardino for a relative’s illness. Meek and Mrs. Meek were in San Bernardino for business. Mrs. Wm. Leitch visits San Bernardino this week. Harry Dobbs and wife spent the weekend in Tujunga visiting his mother. A farm cellar still operates about three miles down the river. An electric sign Good Fats was installed at Mrs. Hugh Thursby’s Eat Shoppe. The Dobbs plan to remodel their house on the Iveson ranch and move from Dillingham apartments.
Mr and Mrs George Jackson of Ludlow were dinner guests of Mrs Tennie McKinn on Wednesday evening. They later attended the dance at Yermo.
Mrs E R Ross learned of the death of her sister Mrs Van Wye of Tucson Arizona from diabetes. Mrs Wye formerly lived in Barstow.
Mr and Mrs Otto Christiansen are spending the week in Los Angeles on a pleasant vacation. The trip is described as a routine leisure visit with sightseeing and relaxation planned around local attractions.
Victorville resident Ray Sperry spent Wednesday visiting old friends in the area, returning to familiar haunts and catching up with longtime acquaintances.
Charlie Demetrius owner of The Typewriter Shop in San Bernardino spent today in town meeting customers and discussing equipment trends.
Co. F. Arends has reorganized the back of his store creating a comfortable resting area for ladies while being shown frocks, lingerie, hats, and accessories. An appealing display has been prepared featuring these items.
Mr and Mrs Ed Pitcher marked their thirtieth wedding anniversary last Friday residing on the desert. They witnessed many changes in the country and Ed once drove in the early days for a famed Death Valley borax team.
More Alfalfa H C Bailey reports a new well on his Hinkley district ranch pumps 40 inches with a 7 percent horsepower motor. This brings the total wells to four, enabling 200 inches with a 37 percent horsepower, as 85 acres are piped for irrigation and a large reservoir nears completion. Sixty acres are in alfalfa now with 20 more acres to be planted this spring.
The Barstow Parent Teachers Association met Tuesday and set future meetings for the first and third Tuesdays monthly. A card party and dance are planned, and this Friday and Saturday the Womanless Tea and Style Show will be staged in the Grammar school auditorium, sponsored by the P T A and American Legion.
Prospectors report gold silver copper and lead across the Waterman District surrounding the old Waterman mine five miles north of Barstow with many shallow shafts sunk between Waterman and Calico mines. Indications suggest a larger productive area worth continued work as seen at Camines. The historic output implies further potential.
Agriculture College team from Utah defeated Barstow High 45 21 in a double header note. High schoolers showed grit under pressure with standout players Glenn McCoy Rosie Palmer Delmas Griffeth and Scott Kerr. Girls team from Barstow faced Victorville with limited success as juniors and sophomores shone. Alumni notes list transfers and visits as senior and junior classes report activities and plans.
Las Vegas sees a building boom as Elks and 20-30 Clubs add new lodges alongside expanding lodge rooms. Barstow is urged to follow with better lodge housing while railways and highways converge to centralize members.
A stockholders meeting at the Rose Inn elected seven directors from four districts to form the Mojave Valley Creamery board. From Oro Grande, Helendale, Hinkley, Harper Lake, Barstow, Daggett, and Newberry districts, Alvin Day, Hillwig, Arthur Davis, G. A. Wiseman, Hf. J. Miller, H. J. Manson, and L. L. Jonas were chosen. The board plans stock sales and a dairy products plan with financing input from Sprague Stock Farm of China. One third cash deposits with balance financed on easy terms were outlined. The board will meet next Monday to choose officers.
Harvey Mosier seeks the man who shares his clothing size after a traveling bag was taken Tuesday night between 8 and 9 from his home while he and Mrs. Mosier were in San Bernardino. A neighbor heard a radio playing, suggesting the house was occupied. Nearby, the Zentmire home was also entered, with Mr. Zentmire losing a watch and other articles.
A quiet August marriage in Kinzman Arizona joined Glenn Palmer and Miss Marguerite Thursby. News of the couple emerged after a surprise party Thursday night at Antler’s hall, celebrating their union with friends. Marguerite Thursby is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Thursby. Glenn Palmer is the son of Mr. and Mrs. L. G. Palmer.
Mrs J A Evans hosted a Tuesday turkey dinner for her husband Edward and son Edward in birthday tribute. Yellow and pink sweet pea and carnation decor matched a cake inscribed Father and Son. Attendees included D W Woods Needles Agnes Anderson Marie Char land William Parthmer Harry Swanger Stanley Funk Muir Funk Eddie Evans and Walter Evans.
Residents can hear authorized Christian Science lectures by Peter W. Ross of San Francisco. Sunday January 20 at 3:00 PM on Radio KFWC Pomona. Tuesday January 22 from 12:10 to 12:50 PM on Radio KFT. Ross serves on The Mother Church Board of Lectureship.
The funeral on Wednesday January 9 honored Harry F. E. Gaddie with many Legionaires from Barstow Colton and San Bernardino in attendance. March Field contributed a firing squad through organizers John Taup and Commander Scott. Pallbearers listed: Jos. L. Hickey, Wm. M. Steen, Lester Hartman, H. F. Brewer, L. B. Belden, R. A. Moore.
