Newberry residents rail at water meeting discontent grows
Newberry residents at Barstow last Saturday evening voiced strong dissatisfaction with the water meeting. They questioned why small farmers bear all costs of the Protective Association while large landholders like the Southern Pacific Land Co and others abstain from funding. The Mojave Land and Irrigation Co seeks eighty five thousand feet of water and some local committeemen from the valley’s western end oppose it. The crowd called for protest against taking water from the Mojave River and noted local figures such as Wiley Owens, Kelley, Fishers, Jimmy Spencer, Wm. Diehl, Bill the painter, Mrs. Sischo, Dr. Cole, Roy Best, and Barstow Printer updates. Subscribe for local coverage.
