Plans to Eliminate Blue Cut and Crossings in Cajon Pass

Surveys led by E. Q. Sullivan state highway engineer for division eight seek to remove the Blue Cut and two railway crossings on the Cajon grade. The Railroad Commission approves an underground crossing near Alray with bids likely soon and a $30,000 appropriation for all crossings. Two surveyed routes propose bridging near the Blue Cut or near Cosy Dell and a dam and creek course change. Sullivan’s forward planning aims to accelerate action once the Commission decides.

Mrs Harry Hoskins Hosts Bridge Club Meeting

Mrs Harry Hoskins entertained the bridge club at her Second Street home on a Wednesday afternoon. A two course luncheon was served at one o'clock after tables were set with spring blossoms, hand-painted place cards, and pots of flowers made by Mary Elizabeth, the hostess's daughter. Mrs L E Tiernan won high score across five rounds.

Former Barstow Boy Appears on RKO Vaudeville Stage

Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Smith spent Monday in Los Angeles with Mrs. Smith’s sister and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Goforth of San Bernardino. They attended an RKO vaudeville show where Lindon Cox, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Cox formerly of Barstow, performed in a tap dance act.

Woman's Club Box Supper for Father's Night

Barstow Woman's Club hosts a box supper next Tuesday at 6 30 p m. Each member brings a two-person box with two kinds of sandwiches potato salad chips deviled eggs and cake. Olives pickles and coffee will be served. A prize for the prettiest box and box exchanges are planned with Mrs George Deskins Mrs Birch and Mrs Ray Smith as organizers.

Bridge Club Rally at Evensen Home

Mrs. Even Evensen hosted her bridge club on Thursday night. After a fine dinner, club members played cards. High score went to Mrs. E. L. White who received five hand stitched and embroidered dish towels. Second high went to Mrs. L. E. Tiernan, a substitute, who received Florient dusting powder with puff.

Mass Meeting Barstow Saturday 10 a.m. For Water Preservation

Barstow hosts a mass meeting at 10 a.m. Saturday about Mojave River water rights and proposed $2,150,000 bond issue to fund a storage reservoir on the headwaters. The aim is to protect flow and oppose overdiversion, with a protest urged to the Division of Water Resources in Sacramento.

Popularity Contest at Yermo Athletic Club

J A Mullikan of the Yermo Amusement and Athletic Club plans a popularity contest tied to Saturday night dances. Prizes will be awarded to the girl with the most votes as crowds grow weekly. Standings will be announced each Saturday. watch next week’s printer for results.

Commissioners Install Two More Fire Plugs

Fire Commissioners installed two additional fire plugs to protect residents north of the river. One sits at the Finke residence on Mojave road near Arrowhead Ave, the other at the west end of Arrowhead Avenue. The effort, aided by a new fire truck, equipment, and a viaduct over the tracks, aims to speed response and safeguard properties across the river.

Nine State Employees Now at Daggett

The State Motor Vehicle Department added another employee to their Daggett station this week. Joe Tuite is the new officer. Wm H More has moved his lunch room and is erecting a service station on the lot recently purchased from the County west of Campbell's Store Daggett.

Ontario Rally Marks Golden Anniversary of Christian Endeavor

Christian Endeavor societies in San Bernardino county celebrated the fiftieth anniversary with a big rally at the Ontario Christian church. The movement was organized in 1881 by Dr. Francis E. Clark of Portland Maine, with invited young peoples’ societies beyond the group.

Ladies' Aid Society Meets at Manse Hostesses Readings

Twenty four ladies attended the Ladies Aid Society meeting today at the Manse with Mrs Frank C Reid and Mrs Charley Williams as hostesses. Mrs Whicker gave a reading on missionary affairs. Next calendar supper set for Friday February 27 at 6 30 pm in the Congregational church basement.

Congregational Church opens a series of pre Easter sermons with the February 15 kickoff. The Feb 22 talk titled God and Nationalism features Boy Scouts as guests. A February 27 Calendar Dinner with Goodfellowship Class program is planned. Midweek Gospel of John devotions begin Feb 25 at 201 E Frederick St. Senior Endeavor hosts a box social Feb 20.

Officers Here Arrest Quartet Wanted In Frisco

San Bernardino and Santa Fe officers, with special agent C F Smithson, detained four suspects for forgery and burglary linked to a San Francisco crime gang. The group, headed to Chicago, held forged checks totaling over 5,000 and loot valued around 35,000 in burglaries, with items including a rifle, a saxophone, and a $900 fur among belongings.

Barstow Talent Stages Musical Comedy in School Hall

A Barstow grammar school audience enjoyed a two night musical comedy staged by local talent. Cast included Eugina Mears played by Mrs A J Weld Hiram Smith by J H Benson and Joyce Mixum by Mrs Fred Goellmer with a supporting group and an enterprising chorus of girls led by Mildred Gibson and others. The production featured a comic Cupid Dan Cupid and a playful byplay with an asphalt sailor crew among the ensemble and named participants.
