Explosion Injures Highway Workers at Ludlow

A Saturday blast in a dirt pit near Ludlow injured three highway workers including George W. Walden J J Moxley and Leon L Beachler. Dynamite placed the day before misfired as a shovel struck it. Walden suffered facial burns Beachler arms face and eyes burned though sight later saved Moxley had minor burns. Two ambulances took the men to hospital chased by traffic accidents.

Amboy Miner Dies After Paralytic Stroke

Amboy blacksmith and miner Adam Bletzer, age 61, died Wednesday morning at the General hospital after a six week treatment for paralysis. He had left Amboy for Barstow, car slid in mud near Camp Cajon, and he was stricken while seeking roadside accommodations. A German native, he had lived in California 50 years, much of that time on the desert.

Former Santa Fe Engineer Becomes Kern County District Attorney

Ray Bailey was administered the oath as district attorney elect by County Clerk Frank E. Smith in Bakerfield. He posted a $7500 bond and will assume office January 1, 1927 after years as a Santa Fe engine operator between Bakerfield and Barstow and studying law. Barstow friends extend congratulations.

Osdick Plans Larger Mineral Display at Orange Show

Pete Osdick of Osdick California passed through town en route to Sam Bernardino. He announced the mineral exhibit at the Orange show will have double the space of former years. Barstow will be allotted eight feet of display space.

Tourists Catch Thieves At Ludlow Garage

Two young tourists bound for Southern California stopped at the Oasis garage in Ludlow at 1 am and removed a car tire. George Reed, inside with lights off, saw them leave with the tire and alerted mechanic A F Cavanaugh. They chased and caught the thieves at the railway crossing. Judge M Reinerth sentenced the county to use their labor on the road for 60 days.

P T A Plans Raffle Chevrolet Touring Car

The P T A met in the auditorium amid rain with many members present. The social committee reported 37.15 net from the Nov 18 card party. A membership drive was assigned and a $20 grant was approved for science class film purchases. Miss Phau spoke on music appreciation for the upcoming concert. Refreshments were served.

The San Bernardino County C. E. Union will hold an Executive committee meeting at the Presbyterian church in San Bernardino on Sunday afternoon at 2 30. Eleven newly elected officers attended the state C. E. Executive Committee meeting in Los Angeles last month and plan a definite program. Arm Found Near Barstow Mystery Deepens

Sheriff Walter A. Shay continues the Barstow desert arm mystery after months of investigation. The arm’s link to Mrs. Lucy Chartier, who allegedly drove from Quincy, Massachusetts, to California, was ruled out when records show her arrival in Los Angeles. Surgeons at General Hospital dispute the arm’s gender, leaving the case unresolved.

Mrs Carl De Wolf hosted a West Barstow gathering with games 500 and hearts and a high score prize awarded to Mrs Fred Lobaugh and a consolation prize to Mrs Arthur Stanley. By unanimous vote C. B. Crain of Victorville was chosen chairman at the annual organization meeting. He will also serve as county purchasing agent and has six years on the board. Grier, of Upland, declined re-election. Cheney declined the chair's nomination.
