District forester records show July fires on national forests in California totaled 259 burning 7326 acres and causing 976.73 dollars damage. Average per fire was 28.2 acres and 3.81 dollars. major causes included lightning and incendiary. Through August 1, 1913, 429 fires burned 13490 acres with 1724.17 dollars damage, averaging 31.4 acres and 4.01 dollars per fire.

Charles Austin Burcham, discoverer of the Yellow Aster mine at Randsburg and vice president of Yellow Aster Mining, died suddenly at Westlake hospital Los Angeles after a heart neuralgia relapse. He was about 54, leaving brother Albert A. and wife Rose LaMonte Burcham. Funeral held at Rosedale crematory chapel. He also led Barstow Green Marble Co. ventures.
