On August 5 1924 about 54000 pounds of government bacon were put on sale across Los Angeles under city auspices and nearly sold out before noon at 36 cents a pound. Other items include naval movements toward Coronado Islands and federal actions to curb food profiteering amid high living costs.
Randsburg notes report a prospecting vein at the Rand Divide Silver Mine, known as the Kelly mines. Samuel Storraw declares one million dollars in sight as ore values rise with depth. Reports mention high grade surface ore and a 26 foot vein showing silver values from hundreds to thousands of ounces per ton. A recent theft attempt on high grade ore was thwarted. Mission Father Fleming completes a visit and garners praise for blunt, uplift-focused ministry. Frank Rose touts the old Ford garage auto as a versatile desert utility car.
General Manager J. H. Dyer of the Southern Pacific-Western Pacific lines says shippers are relaxing efforts to preserve full carload advantages, believing a car surplus and peace will restore heavy loading. He calls the impression erroneous and dangerous and urges shippers to resume full carload shifts at once, noting peace products will exceed past years and demand will remain high.

W. 8. Rogecrance, secretary of the County Farm Bureau, says Japanese vegetable growers now dominate prices, production, and marketing in Southern California. He plans to present data at the bureau showing the extent of control, with prices up about 35 percent higher than last year and 75 percent higher than 2016. Long Beach reports near exclusive Japanese monopoly in growing and retailing.
Daggett defeats Barstow 29 to 6 at Daggett grounds on Sunday and plans a rematch next Sunday at 4 15 PM to avenge the loss. Barstow players to represent the team will be chosen from Storey King Desney Soules Lehay Warnick Martin Percell Richardson Blakeley Smith. The Barstow squad will practice Friday at 5 PM on the local grounds.
In a Sunday baseball game Daggett defeated Barstow 29 to 6 in seven innings. Barstow, in new uniforms, struggled offensively while Daggett dominated on the mound and at the plate. Daggett aims to shut Barstow out again next Sunday at Woodland.
