Barstow Garage Owner I T Hillis Dies in California
I T Hillis a prominent Barstow business figure dies at Santa Barbara home on August 11 after a long illness dating back to June. Born January 24 1870 in Indiana he built a mining era transport business between Daggett Calico and Las Vegas Hot Springs before settling in Barstow around 1910. He leaves wife and three children Mary aged 17FL 14 and Robert one and a half, along with sister in Fresno and brother Y H E Hillis of Los Angeles. Funeral was held in Santa Barbara on Tuesday.

A baby boy was born Tuesday night on the Santa Fe line east of Barstow. Mrs. Lon Grith, en route to Los Angeles, was taken to a hospital after the birth. Dr. Anderson reports both mother and infant are getting along fine.
