No heat deaths in Barstow despite nine cases
The Victorville News-Herald reports no heat related deaths in Barstow though undertakers handled nine cases. One involved a tourist poisoned by food before arrival, another a newborn baby. The Barstow figure follows Barstow as the nearest point to the Victor Valley section reporting heat prostrations. Mexican border town Mexicala saw 14 of 40 valley deaths as temperatures ranged 100 to 111 degrees.
