Barstow Hearing Seeks Pickwick Stage Service

Barstow native suffers gall bladder attack in mountains

Jack Wetenhall Jr. formerly of Barstow was stricken with a severe gall bladder attack while in the mountains. He was taken to Sacramento in critical condition, initially expected to need an operation, but is now resting easier. Miss Dorothy Graham, daughter of Dr. John A. Graham and Mrs. D. L. Graham, is spending a month in Barstow.

Hoover to Accept Nomination With Nationwide Radio Broadcast

Herbert Hoover will formally accept the Republican nomination at Stanford August 11 before about 90,000. NBC plans a nationwide radio hook up with 85 U.S. stations and several shortwave transmitters for foreign reception, reaching the Pacific Coast audience via KFI. Governor Young and Senator Moses will speak, followed by Hoover’s 45 minute address.

Desert miner Emerson perishes saving colleagues in gas tragedy

Emerson known from Barstow area died Friday in a mine accident while his partners Zaffire and Muillenberge attempted to install a gas engine to drain water. Mullenberg fetched help at Victorville after gas suffocated the men. deputies and rescuers wore masks as bodies were recovered.
