Convention at Phoenix Decide Route Government Help Build

Delegates from San Bernardino County Riverside and Victorville Barstow Ludlow Oro Grande and Ludlow will travel to Phoenix aboard the Santa Fe Friday to attend the U S Highway Commission meeting April 24 to 29. They aim to win government aid for the National Old Trail route through Barstow, with rival routes under review at Yuma Blythe and Parker, affecting desert towns and tourist travel.

Sunrise Easter Services Celebrate First Barstow Event

Congregational Church notes describe a large Easter sunrise service on the hill in Barstow with 100 plus attendees. Organizers Gibbs, Warner and Whitney are thanked for the cross and cornet solos. Weekly services, Sunday school in the Grammar school, and choir efforts are praised. Woman's Association meets Thursday. apron sale set for April 28 with proceeds for refreshments and church needs. Ludlow Town Shows Desert Hospitality For Auto Tourists

Ludlow, an oasis 55 miles east of Barstow, attracts travelers with clean streets, painted buildings, and irrigation water hauled 30 miles. Murphy Bros. run a large general store, hotel, garage, and pool hall, while A I Addy, Mrs. Reed, and other locals operate eateries, lodging, and a growing Oasis complex with free camp grounds and plans for a rest room and more amenities. The town prepares for the summer tourist trade with flowers, vines, and a Stradivara phonograph for entertainment.

Terrific storms sweeping eastward across the country produced tornadoes in parts of the central states, killing at least 32 people, leaving two missing and about 320 injured. Property damage runs into millions of dollars, based on reports from affected areas.
