The engineers’ report by John M Fox highlights 4056 feet of development, reveals four ore veins, and estimates 1.6 million ounces silver in 26000 tons. Directors elected include J W Kelly, F L Blanck, H Alderson, J C Wray, F B Chapin, and J H Mara. Lessees optimistic. leases granted on multiple lots with 15 to 25 percent royalty on ore returns.

The Arizona Republican reports 125 California delegates, led by Lloyd Tiernan and Barstow officials, will travel to Phoenix for the Good Roads and Bankhead Highway convention. A special sleeper train will park at the Southern Pacific depot while delegates tour desert routes, noting the Old Trail highway’s current share of tourist travel and the crowded Jefferson hotel quarters in Phoenix.

Automobile Crash at Minneola Crossing Injures Hopkinses
Mr and Mrs Chas H Hopkins of Larami Wyoming narrowly escaped death when their Essex roadster was struck by an eastbound train at the Minneola crossing twelve miles east of Barstow on April 23. Mrs Hopkins jumped clear while Mr Hopkins was hurled about 100 feet, sustaining a scalp wound and bruises. both survived and prepared to take the train home. A similar crash occurred at Santa Fe Springs the same day with severe injuries to the motorist and extensive damage to the car.

Grant One Hundredth Birthday Address At City Club

Death of Alex Nelson Former Barstow native
Alex Nelson died suddenly at his National City home this week. Former chief clerk in Barstow and later worked for Bakersfield before starting a hardware business. He leaves a widow and mother. Attendees at the funeral included Mr and Mrs Desking and Mr and Mrs Benedict.

Barstow to Get Branch Bank Under Labor Control
Labor unions seized control of San Bernardino Valley Bank on April 21 and operate it under organized labor. Nine hundred thirteen of a thousand shares are owned by union men. Backed by the Western representative of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers of Cleveland, a Barstow branch charter is sought with temporary quarters planned and a June 15 opening hoped for.
