Auto Club of Southern California signposting team led by Roscoe Behan and Donald Blick replaced about 1,000 old desert road signs and charted routes for 1,500 more, preparing a 6,500 sign network across the Mojave and Death Valley region from Las Vegas to Pioche via Moapa Calienta and Beatty. Signs are praised by travelers for direction mileages elevations and water holes with signs along trans continental highways most mutilated. Goldstone District Attracts Mining Men Near Barstow
In the Goldstone district about thirty miles north of Barstow several camps have sprung up as prospectors seek ore. The Belmont claim reports two men at 310 feet depth following a promising vein. a 150 foot drift yields free milling ore valued at 30. The 250 foot level mirrors the ore from the earlier drift. Belmont uses a hoist, compressor, and gas engine. Gueiser and Hendrix, from Portland, have leased the North Star group adjoining Belmont and plan deeper work. Jack Pot holdings under M. Petley see ongoing development. On Redbridge, three men drift at 50 feet and claim a rising gold mine. Shue, recently from Goldstone, heads eastward to Los Angeles with interest from eastern investors.
