State Representatives from Barstow hosted a dinner meeting with the Advisory Board of the State Highway Commission to assess California road needs and funding. Senator Arthur H Breed outlined plans to study the network and funding options ahead of the January legislature.
Will H. Marsh announces six new state highway patrol appointees for San Bernardino County. C. J. Boone leads as captain with five others. salaries range 250 to 300 dollars monthly. Effective May 15, the squad plus existing force brings total to about 100. Uniforms mandate distinctive gray or olive drab with Sam Browne belt and left side sidearm.
The Barstow Woman's Club elected officers for the coming year with thirteen members voting. E. I. White won the presidency by one vote over Chas. Topping. Other officers include L. J. Henderson First Vice President J. O. Paulson Second Vice President John Whgler Recording Secretary Chas. Garver Corresponding Secretary L. E. Tiernan Treasurer Mary Harper Auditor S L Myers Sentinel A C Pratt Parliamentarian E L Pitcher. Mary Cook led the Indian music program with Eva Danielson reciting verses and Helen McDonald at the piano. A luncheon of strawberry shortcake and coffee followed.
Mr and Mrs W G Hargis entertain their son and daughter in law from El Centro. Mrs Gauldin attends the funeral of Mrs Ashurst in Azusa, mother of Senator Ashurst of Arizona. An advisory committee traveled from Barstow to Needles and Kleinfelter, toward Las Vegas, via Silver Lake road, with many officials aboard. The group plans to return to Barstow soon.
A meeting of the Mojave River Riparian Owners Association will be held on April 26 at 2 p.m. in Barstow Union High School to discuss matters concerning the Mojave River and the dispute with the Mojave River Irrigation District.
Miss Donnelly the county nurse examines children this week while Miss Edwards makes her fourth quarterly visit. A health display will appear at White and Platt drug store as the county promotes child health. The grammar school operetta Twilight Alley is set for next Friday May 2. Enrolment stands at 250 and parents are asked to send children unless excused. attendance increases funding for next year.
Weather was delightful for Barstow's Sunrise Easter prayer service lasting an hour. Miss Cobb led morning prayer at Mr. McRae's request. Sunday school presented a high quality program with no rehearsals. Madge Henderson joined the church and Dalman infant christened. The day drew full attendance with The Palms sung by Mrs. Strain and family. Elmer Estes and Fern West will be absent for a San Bernardino trip on the 27th.
Announcement by W C Renwick district sales manager in Bakersfield states Standard Oil will build a gasoline and lubricating station at Amboy on the trans continental route. The plant will supply Red Crown gasoline Zeroline oils and greases and operate tank trucks to serve garages service stations and petroleum users in the region.
The Santa Fe Military Band held a rehearsal at Division Foreman Wall's home on April 23 at 7 30 P M. The group is progressing quickly and still seeks more instruments. They aim to perform at Barstow for the July Fourth celebration.
Robert R. Burke becomes Standard Oil manager in Barstow transferring from Delano. The Barstow community welcomes the Burke family, noting gains in population and school enrollment. Hoak leaves Barstow for Santa Barbara district as Burke and family arrive. The local market conducts a very active wholesale business across the desert district.
A three member board was appointed in court Saturday to partition desert mining property near Ludlow owned by Lena Reid and T. C. and B. M. Murphy. The board includes T. C. Carter Barstow John C. Ralphs Jr San Bernardino and Gene Valpean Ludlow. The property is valued around 10000 dollars. Attorneys Walter E. Byrne and S. W. McNabb of McNabb Hodge represent the parties.
