Wallace H. Miller is appointed vice president and manager of the Durant Hotel Corporation in Berkeley. Former Barstow High School teacher and Barstow Kiwanis secretary, he is son of H. L. and Mrs. Miller of the Melrose Hotel. The Durant, a 160 room Berkeley hostelry, opened 80 rooms Oct 1 1928, with 80 more added Aug 1 1929.

Barstow Woman's Club Hosts Husband Night Dinner

On Tuesday evening April Sth Barstow Woman's Club members and husbands dined at Harvey House dining room with seventy two attendees. After the meal they moved to the Boy Scout building for Bunko. Prizes included a boudoir lamp for ladies high and a bill sold for gentlemen's high. Low scores earned Easter toys. Mrs John Benson chaired the program with assistants Mrs Knaggs Mrs Davies and Mrs A Birch.

At the last PTA meeting officers were elected for the coming year with Dee Cooper named president after a resigning president left the post vacant. Burden Pioneer Merchant of Newberry Dies

J. W. Burden pioneer of the Mojave River Valley died suddenly last Saturday at Helendale from suspected acute indigestion. He and his wife homesteaded near Newberry twenty one years ago then owned a store at Newberry after trading land for it. Survived by wife two daughters and two sons including Ruth Burden of Helendale and Chas Burden of Helendale. Burial in San Bernardino Monday at 2 30.

Pacific Electric Bus on Barstow Street

A Pacific Electric bus from San Bernardino drew attention on Barstow Main Street as onlookers mistook it for a streetcar. The visit aided a San Bernardino Superior Court jury inspecting the Haws ranch to determine land value compensation for a highway project. Barstow and Victorville 20 30 Clubs Meet

Fourteen members of the 26 806 Club attended the 20 20 Club meeting in Victorville Wednesday evening. George Henderson spoke on My Value as a 20 30 fan and the service the clubs provide to their communities. Pat Garrett chaired the meeting, Ivor Davies announced the 5th District Convention in Barstow on May 8 inviting Victorville to join in hosting visitors.
