Good Roads Doings In Barstow And Oro Grande Trip

Barstow business men visited Oro Grande to inspect the new highway that ties Barstow to San Bernardino Needles and Kingman. They then continued to Victorville and Ludlow improvements were outlined with road grading expected to finish soon. The Barstow Good Roads association meets April 7 with invited attendees.

Church Convention At Barstow Union Church

Delegates from many desert points attend a Barstow Union Church convention on Sunday April 6 with a sunrise prayer meeting Sunday school rally sermon and various talks. Daggett Doings Show Local Agricultural Growth And Water Plans

Local residents report expanding orchards and vineyards with Keith at Manix planting nine acres of muscat grapes and 100 fruit trees, Meecham of Harvard buying pipe for a Los Angeles aqueduct project, and Williams at Otis with ten acres of apple trees. Andrews at Camp Cady sinks a well with pumping gear while partner Rupert Beverly tours a honey moon. Barry of Minneola adds a new well rig aiming for a 300 ft well with a large diameter first section, Merrill plans another pumping plant for 80 acres of alfalfa, and the Van Dykes expect over 600 tons of alfalfa next year. The region, once called Calico or Silver Valley, prompts renewed naming efforts for the Mojave valley area.

Young Man Found Dead East of Otis on Salt Lake Rail

A young man was found near Barstow ten miles east of Otis on the Salt Lake railroad with both legs severed and a head wound. He held a pistol when found and was buried at Daggett. J H Flint visited Los Angeles this week. Lubin J Henderson traveled to Randsburg Thursday to present the latest fashion.

Barstow Brevities and Desert Happenings

Barstow notes report J H Sloan as having a family car with room for three. Jack Morris is said to have killed himself in the powder house at Ryan. Charley Wilder, old-timer of the desert, not expected to live through the night at Daggett. Dr Linhart made a semi monthly visit along the T and T railroad. From March 20 to April 15 Santa Fe and Salt Lake offer homeseekers excursions Los Angeles to Parstow and Daggett at special rates. New motion picture machine at Hetcher's Opera house showed first rate pictures. Mrs Dillingham and son Reece left for Cleveland Ohio to visit ill relatives. Dick Zanini returned to the mines at Atolia after a stay at the Zanini Ranch. The Boneys Boys entertained at Fletcher's Opera house to a full house.

New Era mine near Cima shows promising strike

The New Era mine 12 miles north of Cima in the Nesler range is revived after a gold strike with a few workers. A vein of high grade ore 100 ft from the existing shaft boosts the prospect and a stock company is formed to operate. Nearby strikes and local travel hint at Cima’s growth as farmers plant and a well drill operates between Cima and Valley Wells.
