Vera Cruz May 2. News from Tampico shows massing constitutionalist forces threatening the city and possibly influencing U.S. policy as the federal Vera Cruz governor tightens controls on food deliveries. A pineapple grower I. W. McClelland was attacked by workers over pay, escaping to Vera Cruz.
General Carranza telegraphed Secretary Bryan from Chitualun that constitutionalists would not enter a formal neutral zone agreement for Tampico oil wells. He allowed oil companies to resume operations while vowing protection. Officials note the move could hinder rebel offensives and relate to mediation efforts.
Mexico City on May 2 Jose Lapee Por tile y Bales the Mexican foreign minister resigned yesterday. A reshuffle at the foreign office followed with an official statement issued regarding the resignations.
About 250 refugees from Mexico arrived in San Diego aboard the German steamer Marie from Manzanillo, June 23, following anti American outbreaks. They left Vera Cruz after American marines landed, and reached San Diego yesterday seeking safety and shelter.

Burlington May 2 report details a school janitor cleared by the board after being accused of taking coal. Evidence showed only him carrying buckets from the depot area, explained as permission to take home cinders to burn.
Michael P. Mav Laney, an insane man who shot Corporation Counsel Frank Polk in an attempt on Mayor Mitchel, was sent to the state hospital by order of Judge Malqueen of the general sessions. Three alienists examined Maher and said he was suffering from juvenile development.
Vermont and Georgetown University battled to a 4 to 4 tie in fourteen innings at Burlington. Malcolm and Fienely pitched superbly, with both clubs outstanding in the field. Each side tallied early, but defense and tired arms kept the game scoreless until darkness halted play.
Haverhill May 2 Mrs Clara Knight wife of the town clerk of Newbury Orange County Vermont and her sister in law Mrs Leon Knight of Pike and the latter's four year old daughter Dorothy were drowned when a carriage overturned and occupants were thrown into ten feet of water from a washed out road. The accident occurred on the Newbury road between North Haverhill and Newbury as a swollen stream filled a culvert. The horse stumbled and fell dragging the vehicle into the water. The bodies were recovered last night.
News arrived of Mesa Ave Boeker Hoeker, born May 18 1874 in Waterbury, daughter of August Hoeker and Ellen Rae Rooker. She taught at St Johnsbury Amherst and Bridgeport before several years in Springfield. Survived by father two sisters Alice Boeker Burlington and Welthy Boeker town, brother Carl Boeker Providence. Funeral services tomorrow after body arrives by express.

In Enosburg Falls a tenement owned by George Erwin and occupied by Charles Brown burned yesterday causing about 1000 dollars in losses. The family was away at the time and a small insurance coverage was noted. The fire was discovered quickly as the building went up in flames within minutes. A local resident Samuel Rushlow resided nearby. Also noted is a report of the Siberia’s voyage to Manila with an uneventful crossing from Nagasaki to Manila arriving around 1 o clock.

District No 1 of the Washington County Sunday School association held a largely attended conference for workers juniors and teachers at the Congres sional church. Clergymen from Barre Montpelier East Barre South Barre Websterville and Graniteville participated with Rev Ramage speaking on the value of the child taught by the Great Teacher. The gathering featured department meetings and remarks on teacher training followed by an evening service and closing address by Rev Ivan Benedict.
A rope of diamonds valued at 100000 dollars, lost by a Pasadena woman, was recovered after authorities arrested a traveling circus roustabout in San Francisco on a fighting charge. End pieces were found in his clothing following a search. The diamonds belonged to the Pasadena woman.
George W Thar Mm, a Graniteville resident known in the community, died at his home Friday at 11 40 am after a yearlong illness of angina pectoris. He left three daughters and three grandchildren. His daughters include Mrs Hubert Beagrie of Barre and Mrs Henry Morrison and Mrs Michael McLaighlin of Granitevilly. Born in Milton January 2 18, much of his boyhood was in Milton where he married Miss Oliver Dougherty April a IST. He moved to Graniteville, built his home, and worked in nursery stock sales and as road mercantile equipment dealer across several states. He was an honorary Odd Fellow, a judge in Graniteville, and a Methodist church adherent. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 1 pm, with interment in Hope Cemetery in Barre.
Miss Jennie Frederickson died at 6 38 this morning on High Street Plainfield after a long illness with complications. She was 27 and survived by her father Hans Frederickson and mother, and sister Mrs Harry Dudley of East Montpelier. Born in Plainfield she lived there most of her life and worked as a bookkeeper for Singer and ran a dressmaking shop before moving. She studied at Goddard Seminary and had many friends in Barre who mourn her passing.
News from Senne Florida reports Reverend FE J Ranslow a former Swanton Congregational Church pastor has suffered a stroke. He led the Swanton church for nearly a quarter century and now lives mostly in Senne Florida. One daughter Mrs B H Brown resides in this city.
Salvation Army barracks announce tomorrow services at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Mrs. Margaret J. Smith returns from Hawaii after her father’s illness and death. Also noted are cast plans for a Newman Dramatics piece, Mt. St. Mary’s honor students Kathleen Miles and Clair Miles, and various residents visiting Barre, Vermont, including William W Spaulding and others staying in Barre.
Mount Sinai temple No. 1 of the Ancient Arabic Order of the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine held a May festival in Montpelier with a large banquet attended by about 400 people before nine candidates were initiated. Names of initiates and several attendees from distant temples are listed, including George A. Bayley, George W. Shannon, Albert S. Jones, Warren J. Cummings, Nathaniel M. Johnson, Garnett F. Cowren, Sidney F. Davis, William F. Cuthbertson, Alexander K. Cuthbertson, and others from Barre, Newport, Groton, Brattleboro, and Montpelier.
Subscriptions for a new hotel boosting fund began today at the Barre Board of Trade. Business leaders pledged over 1000 dollars, with plans to donate the value of the old City hotel to incorporators and provide remaining funds to reach 810,000. The Board urges rapid backing to move construction toward earthwork at 2 Washington Street and accelerate the project.
Firefighters battled a blaze on the roof of a large granite shed in Smith's meadow off Blackwell Street owned by Comelli & Co. Sparks from a chimney near the engine room likely started the fire, forcing a rapid response. A 25 foot area burned before crews drenched the roof and yard with chemical fluid and hoses. The incident, at 2:30 pm, caused insured damage and no injuries.
New insurance rates in the Mortpelire district near Wasu pees county and the Criteal Vewment railway took effect yesterday.
