A two hour Bryan talk sought U.S. stance while reports circulate on a Red Cross official in Mexico City. Spanish ambassador Riano carries Huerta message to mediators.
Washington May 1 Rear Admiral Mayo reports the Ward line steamer Antilla, flying Cuban flag, fired upon and held near Tampico by constitutionalists on Wednesday, then entered port under rebel fire. The Vera Cruz gunboat fired on the constitutionalists as Antilla moved upriver. two large oil tanks burned at the refinery pier. Parties urged restraint while mediators seek a peaceful Mexico settlement amid Carranza and Villa movements.

Mexican residents in Vera Cruz expect Huerta's fall within weeks. They think Madero would welcome an opportunity to retire without loss of dignity, hoping the United States will allow constitutionalists to try to reestablish the government and continue in possession of Vera Cruz.

Knights Templar St Aldemar commandery No 11 held its annual meeting in the Blanchard building barracks with many knights present to hear yearly reports. All elective officers were announced and May 7 installation plans were set with an auspicious ceremony expected in Masonic halls.
