Washington March 26 news reports a move toward peace at Paris with a possible amendment to exempt domestic questions from the leagues jurisdiction. US delegates are described as optimistic about Wilsons program and Monroe Doctrine preservation amid German and Allied negotiations.
Berlin on Sunday Dr Schiffer minister of finance in the new cabinet vowed that the government will not surrender an inch of German territory either east or west. He spoke to a large crowd in front of the chancellor's palace, according to Tages Zeitung.

Berlin reports detail executions by Bolsheviks of non Bolshevik civilians in Latvia and Courland. Old men women and children from Mitwa were marched through snow to a camp forty miles away. Children were separated from parents and reportedly killed. Several towns near Tuk kum and Taleen fear further executions as Riga remains under Bolshevik control.
The army transport Francesca, formerly Austrian, docked in New York from Marseilles today carrying 24 officers and 988 troops. Partial company numbers 1,926 Connecticut and 1,923 Pennsylvania were listed among the arrivals.
London reports that Kolchak government troops broke Bolshevik lines on March 1 and advance southwest of Perm. They completed the capture of Ova and drive Bolshevik forces westward in three directions. Kolchak forces seize stores, capture sailors, and annihilate Bolshevik detachments.
Paris dispatch reports Polish forces recaptured Grodno and Pinak districts from Bolsheviks. Polish headquarters says Grodno city administration now under Polish control. Bolshevik retreat left cannon, machine gas, ammunition, locomotives, railway materials and about half a million rubles abandoned.
An Allied mission in Budapest has nearly all left. only one American officer remains. Reports from Vienna say Budapest troops have withdrawn from Arad and Suvekdin as martial law spreads across Czechoslovakia. Colonel Vix, head of the French mission, is reported wounded and captured. Major Freeman of the British army escaped.
Washington March 26 A Baltimore club chief testified in court that major league actors enforced a baseball monopoly. I Edwin Gaidmen former director described how organized baseball controlled clubs and players including 207 clubs and nearly 2000 players. He said the national commission acted as court and issued rulings.
Montpelier news notes driver George Ladd on vacation plans to inspect St Johnsbury fire station motor truck and bring back ideas for local service. Also updates on probate matters for Willian Forrend and Bridget Sonnull, legislature muck session hints, and two fire calls with minor damage at Tenox block and Bethany Church parsonage.
New York dated report says Mrs. Loni Mercier died while trying to rescue her two daughters Lona aged six and Helen age three from a house fire in a Richmond Hill fashionable residence area. Her husband and a third daughter escaped through a window with serious burns. she searched second floor for the remaining children and did not return.
Jamaican residents reacted with consternation as four American seaplanes flew over Kingston before a departing warship left for Guantanamo. The sight startled people across the city amid the vessel’s stay of several days.

Cairo reports describe widespread unrest with two thousand hens sacked in a village. British soldiers were murdered and stations at El-Rekkah and El-Wasta burned. March 15 to 16 saw looting of trains, release of prisoners, and clashes with police. Dozens killed and many wounded as troops fired.
In Washington county court M L Wood wins a companion suit against National Life Insurance Co over a fire policy valued at 10000. The Lane Manufacturing judgment is entered dismissing that suit after a demurrer. Maggie Murray’s divorce from Joseph Murray is granted on intolerable severity. Several other divorce actions and settlements are listed, including Bertha Huber and Amanda Raymond cases.
Waterbury March 2 Mrs Mamie Spey of Railroad Street died at 12 30 pm from taking Paris green poison with suicidal intent. Dr I A Hopkins attended hoping she might recover but said she took the poison about an hour and a half before. She swallowed three quarters of a half pound can contents. Cause of death unknown though family troubles are blamed. She leaves a husband and two boys aged six. The family came from Montpelier seven years ago and the husband works in the railroad section.
Vermont records show 1780 influenza deaths with most towns reporting cases. Bellows Falls Brattleboro and nearby areas report zero appreciable deaths, while overall state cases approach 40,000. Despite surge, Vermont notes excellent general health at present.
In a Governors Island court martial, Captain Edwin C. Welngerter of Pittsburgh faces trial for alleged acts in the enemy’s interest. Captain Doyle and Professor Heisig testified about hydrogen and acetylene appliance proposals and a synthetic fuel analysis cited by the prosecution.

Goddard seminary near Barre readies for its HWth anniversary during commencement week with elaborate pageants and ceremonies. Principal Hollinter announced 101 commencement honors as alumni and friends are invited to attend. Anniversary events start June 26 with a morning exercises and banquet on campus followed by after dinner speeches. An excursion to granite plants and quarries is planned for Friday. Graduation exercises occur Friday night, June 27, with a class day omission.
St Johnsbury March 26 The commencement exercises announced six honor students and the valedictory and salutatory. Doris Perry delivered the valedictory with Harold Wells as salutatory. Essays were by Lowlie Mexia and Estelle Slack. Honor roll includes Zilla Rodlilar Sears of Irasburg Grave Rodliff Sigrid Pklof Helen Crawford of Irasburg and Eleie Gray.
A parish meeting with supper was held at Church of the Shepherd to meet Rev. David C. Huntington. About 100 were served by the new women's guild. talks for church good were given by Huntington and other members. The gathering approved forming a men’s club with officers Carter, Waldron Shield, Athol R Bett, and others.
City council and aldermen ended a tense session after approving six canvassers to conduct a ten day census of taxpayers. Salaries for Engineer and Water Superintendent and Police Chief were raised, with debate over the canvassing method and who would perform tax assessments.
