American Peace Conference delegates in Paris receive word from private Viennese agents about a threatening state of affairs involving Bolshevik influence in German Austria and Hungary.
Panicked Budapest faces a nation torn between a Soviet republic plan and unstable authority. Reports from Vienna and Copenhagen cite rumors of a Hungarian Soviet government, with streets lively but no confirmed Bolshevik advance. Officials say peace and order persist in provinces as revolutionary groups form in several towns.
Word from General Headquarters indicates Luxembourg will be placed under the American Third Army on April 1 with jurisdiction to the French frontier. Sixth Corps under Brigadier General Adelbert Crookite, with Oh and Sid divisions, will move into Luxembourg. Headquarters to be at Luxembourg City as the American command expands to nine divisions.
In Lawrence Massachusetts on March 26 striking textile workers filled the streets with women and children. Four revolver shots were fired on Coramon street near the Washington mill but caused no injuries. A woman was arrested for throwing a stone that struck a police inspector in the face as dawn broke the opening hour of mills.
In Coblenz suburb Gulz on March 16, three American soldiers fought several German civilians. One American private died from a stab wound, another was seriously wounded, and two Germans were also stabbed. Authorities hold several Germans for trial. Americans say the clash began after anti American remarks.
Madrid declares martial law at 5 this morning with possible suspension of constitutional guarantees across Spain. A general strike erupts in Barcelona amid the national turmoil. Provisional leader Pronder Romananus, while planning to resign, says he must stay in office.
Budapest dispatches report former Hungarian premier Count Michael Karoly has been negotiating with the Moscow government since last November to introduce Bolshevism into Hungary Romania and Yugoslavia. They urge Allies to send men munitions and food before more harm occurs as Lenine plans to send a delegation to Hungary and bolster frontier guards amid mobilization in Romania and Czecho Slovakia.
Berne dispatches say the Bolshevik army marching toward Bongary has reached Brody, a city in northeastern Galicia about 100 miles east of Lemberg. The report places the advance on Monday, March 24, with Brody as a key transit point.
Amsterdam dispatch reports the new government abolishing church state ties at its first meeting. Ratified measures dissolve Karolyi era officials, invite workers councils to form four member directorates, and order revolutionary courts to seize homes, businesses, and art treasures.
Vienna reports that all new socialist parties in Hungary will back the government to secure alignment with the Entente. Rural areas reportedly shifted to the communists, with promises of American-led action and possible involvement by U.S. officials. London notes German steamers Cleveland and Patricia allotted to the United States will be manned by American sailors for troop transport home. San Juan reports a U.S. destroyer fleet en route to join the Atlantic Fleet under Rear Admiral Plunkett.
Paris March 24 The League of Nations commission spent three hours tentatively disposing of the first 16 sections of the covenant and making form changes to satisfy most objections by Lodge and American senators. President Wilson attended. no action on Monroe doctrine amendments.
The Veni Zen carried Marines regulars and various Army units including the 17th regiment of railway engineers and 2208 troops from St Nazaire on Susquehanna. George Washington brought Fifth Machine Gun Battalion and Fifth Field Signal Battalion with units from Massachusetts Connecticut Pennsylvania and others plus 710 sick and wounded.
St Albans March 26 The February statement of transactions in Vermont's customs district shows total imports 2 788 003 dollars versus 2 448 414 last February. Domestic exports valued 3 735 003 dollars and foreign exports 141 329 dollars, with total duties collected 82 044.07 dollars.
T Comolli died at home 15 Railroad street yesterday evening after months of illness. The Liberal funeral will be held Wednesday at 2 PM from the house with burial in Hope Cemetery. Born January 17 1877 in Brano Italy he came to America in 1907 first in Milford Connecticut then Barre where he worked as a granite cutter at Charles Banchi plant. He was active in the Italian community and Prairie Cutters Union. He leaves a wife two sons Charles and Mario four brothers Pasquale Marco Farnet and Constantino and sisters Giovannina and Laigi still in Milford New England. He was survived by family in Italy.
Mrs Gertrude Lacour t charged with murder after Louis Lacour died from a shooting during a Saturday automobile ride in Boston. She waived examination and was held without bail. She said the former private detective boasted of another woman and that he struck her before she fired the revolver taken from his pocket.

Private Orlaundo Vennet son of Mr and Mrs Thomas Vennet of Warren street returns to Chateau Thierry area. He served 14 months earning three gold stripes left sleeve and two right stripes for bravery. Enlisting June 25 1917 in Boston he trained in Syracuse then joined Cy BP 2nd Infantry of the Regulars. His unit helped halt the German advance toward Paris and played a key role in repelling forces at Chateau Thierry. He later fought at Et Mililel Metso and Argonne before returning to the United States aboard a canvas ship and arriving in New York. He plans to spend time with family in Boston after discharge.
Sergeant Albert Marr of Barre returned from France visiting his sisters in Barre after sustaining an elbow wound from a bayonet accident while on sentry duty in a shell hole. He served with a Maine regiment and left Spaulding High School in St Albans, Maine.
Paris reports that an American amendment to the Monroe Doctrine is being framed and will be offered to Article X of the covenant. The move aims to safeguard the Monroe doctrine, with clarified intent and expected details to be discussed by the league of nations.
The Vermont House debates a two year state budget including $40,000 for the 1919 legislature and a wide range of appropriations for executive, education, agriculture, highways, and public services. After hours of debate the House recommits the exclusive English language bill and considers multiple revisions and new measures from appropriations committee and Senate.
Governor Percival W. Clement told the Legislature that the state faces a paper deficit of about 700,000 dollars with a two year time frame to clear it. He called for cautious expenses, possible insurance funding for state buildings, consolidation of agricultural and normal schools, and modest salary adjustments for top officials to retain talent. He detailed budget figures, anticipated military costs, and highway plans for the next two years.
