A southbound New England States Limited was delayed about an hour today when a merchandise freight car derailed on a nearby train near Bolton. The passenger train carried Montpelier Junction about two o’clock this afternoon.
Barre city registers 30 men who have just turned 21 since June 5 1917 at city hall with James Mackay as chief registrar. Most are local registrants. two cards will be mailed to the towns of residence. Registration runs 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will be turned over to the county board for details.
Provost Marshal General Crowder sent out mobilization orders for 40000 black draft registrants qualified for general military service. Entrainment is scheduled for June 20 to 25. The registrants hail from twenty states as announced in Washington D C. Charles Warren Fairbanks, former vice president and senator, died at his home late last night from interstitial nephritis. He was 56. Family and officials confirmed the death and noted his long public career. Maj. Richart Pared and others serving in France were at his bedside at the time of death.
Mrs Isabelle T Fraser wife of the late eps nes Fraser of 20 Long Street Yorke stock afre died after a period of declining health. She leaves two daughters Mrs Richard Dawe of Col and Mrs R T Clerk and one son Robert W Fraser of Taenena. Two sisters Mrs Hohing Durward of Marre and Mrs Jessie Bruce of Simoeheven Scotland. A brother Taylor Hives. The couple married about 36 years ago in her birth town. She had lived in Marte 24 years and was a charter member of the Ladies’ Wrenchery to Clan Gordon. She was a devoted member of the First Presbyterian Church. Arrangements for the funeral are pending tidings from sherw relatives are requested. Gowers be vomited.
The funeral for George Gumlaw who died at his home on Summer Street Standlights Tong illness was held at Saint parish church with Rev T M McKenna officiating. Alderman A Lownager and Fred Canton were among the mourners. interment followed at a Catholic cemetery.
