New York reports a battle with German submarines off the Atlantic coast. The carrier Texel was torpedoed and sunk after being boarded by a submarine commander who claimed orders to attack. Survivors describe a warning burst and ships forced to abandon ship.
The City of Columbus of the Savannah line, feared sunk by a German submarine, is safe in an Atlantic port harbor. It anchored offshore with no damage evident, and arrived about a half hour after initial reports suggested loss. The ship’s identity had been uncertain while in harbor.
An American tanker damaged by German submarine shells arrived at an Atlantic port after being picked up at sea and towed in. The City of Columbus, a Savannah liner, arrived later with passengers aboard, no submarines seen, crew extinguished fires, and Captain J H Diehl leading officers in the aftermath.

Speakers including James Mackay Atty Joseph Frattini Col Herbert Johnson Fred Howland and Atty Augusto Franceschini urged support for a city war chest amid patriotic displays by local bands and allied flags.

A notable counter attack at Neuilly wood threw back units north of the wood, with heavy German casualties and 100 prisoners taken.
