The President told the Supreme Council his strong demands led to partial acceptance of his plan for colonies. He stated he would not support division of Germany’s colonial possessions and pledged to guarantee their title under the League of Nations.
Paris reports a tentative compromise on German colonies aligning with Wilsons 14 points. The supreme council will review his exact remarks from Wednesday, noting his push against division of colonies and reference to a possible league of nations with strong reservations lingering over American participation.
Paris jam 41. The peace conference had no reply to invitations from Russian governments for a conference at Princes Island. The government of North Russia formally refused to meet with Bolsheviks. The Omak government under Admiral Kolchak expresses strong reserve.

New York January 3 Two barges each holding six airships were destroyed at Rockaway Point naval aviation station as a fire spread through hangars. Firemen and navy personnel battled shifting winds, but eight hangars were threatened before crews moved all airships to safety.
The British transport Minnekahda docked in New York carrying 2,738 troops from France. Most belong to the Siddi division with units A through M, plus the 329th infantry headquarters, while Oceanic company 222 includes two officers and 467 men. A Berlin rumor centers on Arthur Von Gwinner, former managing director, potentially becoming president of the German republic.

Washington Jan 31 Names of witnesses whose testimony supported charges of collusion among the five major packers will be voluntarily submitted by the federal trade commission to the Home Interstate Commerce Committee along with all testimony and evidence since the meat industry probe. William Colver, committee chair, said the panel demanded witness times be divulged for further questioning.
Nyack New York reports two explosions at the Aniline Products plant. Three workers are missing and about twenty people hospitalized after blasts that devastated the building and damaged Nyack Evening Journal offices across the street. Firemen battled the blaze as many windows shattered and the facility burned, with damages estimated above 100000 dollars.
Governor Clement announced numerous appointments and reappointments across Vermont. Names include Albert W. Dickens Rockingham K O'Brien Londonderry Cudworth Brattleboro Hartford Montpelier St Albans Springfield Bennington Fair Haven Darlington Montpelier Moretown and other towns. Reappointments cover school fund trustees medical registration nurses conciliation and arbitration dental embalmers assistive agencies education and related boards.
In Buco Maine court today Henry H Hall faced questions over his relationship with his wife killed by him. Their 14 year old daughter Frances testified about quarrels over Hall's attention to other women and his domestic duties. She described his chores and cashing, with defenses noting his help due to Mrs Hall's health while living in Princeton. Frances recounted his night absences for prayer meetings and lodge. The witness described both preacher and wife as nature lovers and the mother as emotionally volatile.

Philip Ochoa a 30 year old quarry worker from Websterville was struck in the head by a flying drill at a Websterville quarry and taken to Barre City Hospital by Whitcomb's ambulance. Initial fears of fatal injury gave way to cautious optimism after examination. Dr E H Bailey Graniteville led the case. Ochoa is unmarried and has been boarding with a Spanish family in Websterville.
Ralph Dashner, ex A7th Pioneer infantry and now mounted police at an American embarkation center, writes from La Ferte en Bernard France. He describes the castle and prison there, the cathedral, the town canal, Percheron horses, and his role as interpreter for officers, noting he has not yet received mail.

The funeral for Ida May Gonpo who died of pneumonia in Boston Tuesday was held from Mrs. Edward Carroll's house in Laurel Street with services at St. Monica's church. Rev P My McKenna officiated as many relatives and friends attended. a large array of floral tributes accompanied the procession.
