Black Hand gang members bombed a New York tenement Friday after the owner Deordino Sagano refused a $2,000 demand. A bomb shattered two ground floor stairs and a stairway to upper quarters, but no deaths occurred as residents slept above the blast.
Louis Fineman, eight year old son of Abealinns Fineman of Ayer street Haverhill Massachusetts, drowned yesterday in the Merrimack River after slipping from thin ice near a wharf at the foot of Ayer street. He struggled for fifty feet as two companions could not help him, and by the time responders arrived the boy had disappeared beneath the current. Harbormaster Gilmartin and officers organized grappling with the river but the body was recovered within an hour.
Lilly MeDowell, a servant in Pittsburgh attorney H. Choteni Dyer’s home, is jailed on charges of stealing jewelry valued at about 75,000. Police say Dyer’s bank account in Pittsburgh Savings and a separate attachment from Chi vage suggest broader inquiries into other possible accounts and victims.
Thomas O'Connor of the State Firemen's Association testified before a legislative committee in New York. He labeled mutual fire insurance companies of New England as tax dodgers, claiming they are unlicensed and outside the insurance department's oversight.

In Philadelphia on December 2 Nicholas Pantele of Cleveland shot and mortally wounded his wife at her parents home after she refused to return to him. He followed her after a bitter quarrel, aiming to force reconciliation.
New York December 20 A laborer Dombule Brandt attempted suicide with a 22 caliber revolver three times ducking each shot as it misfired. The bullet grazed his scalp on the third try and he was later examined at Bellevue Hospital where authorities sought to determine if his mental state warranted a diagnosis.
Prospects rise that the schooner Thomas B Garland wrecked on Great Point may be saved. Wreckers have pumped water and cleared debris, about 200 tons of loose timbers removed, favorable weather aids operations, and revenue cutter Acushnet may assist. The vessel has shifted under strain but remains afloat threats.

Pittsfield December reports say a boiler explosion at the Morewood Lake Ice Company plant killed fourteen workers and injured twenty. His brother James A Healy, a druggist, died recently and probate notes Healy’s incompetence to manage the estate. A committee of administrators was appointed as Healy failed to acknowledge the news of his brother’s death. Upon Healy’s death, the estate will pass to the cousins, nearest relatives of the late druggist.
Russell Green of Burlington narrowly escaped serious injury in a railroad wreck near Clinton Mills. An express train rear collided with a light engine as it moved toward Odgerisburg, shattering windows and injuring several but causing no major harm. Green, a telegram messenger, was among those affected as cars were derailed and damaged.
Mise Marion Babbit of Lidiow married Walter Fenton of Burtland at the bride’s aunt Mrs. Reseette’s Atkinson Street home. Rev. W. Davenport of First Methodist Nharwh officiated. Attendants included Miss Yardley of Smith College and Mr. Owen of Pittaford. The couple plan to live in Rutland after a New York trip.

George Deland Webb, president of Webb Granite and Construction Co. of Worcester, Mass, was killed when he fell from a Boston & Albany train at North Grafton after a faint spell. Webb, born April 16 1854 in Barre, built a national quarry and construction empire, including the Mack Hay Station in Boston and the Worcester County Courthouse, employing hundreds. He leaves a wife Addy Holman Barnard, five children and siblings. prominent Mason, K T member, and Commonwealth Club head.

The semiannual election of officers for Local 241 ROC 1 PA was held last evening. Edward Chesser was chosen president. William Eager is first vice president and Fred C. Dutta second vice president. HM J Houghton became financial secretary, Alon Barrett treasurer, Walter Bootwell recorder, J T Galv inghan guardian, H B Brooks truster, William Enger grievance vice chair, A L Pierce chair for 14 months, and Edward Chesser delegate to the Central Labor Union for 18 months.
Joseph Sues sues Luigh Galleani nation editor for 5000 damages claiming wicked slander to break up his family and public shaming. Deputy Sheriff Morris holds a warrant for Galleani’s arrest but cannot yet seize him. Mrs Sasei contemplates similar action for alleged slanderous statements against her reputation.
