Christmas in London saw over 6,000 American soldiers marching with Khaki and American colors. Miss Margaret W. Wilson joined the visit as gifts of toys and clothing were shared with local children along the route from the station to Buckingham Palace.
President Wilson and Mrs. Wilson arrive in London after Calais voyage, greeted by King George, Queen Mary, and Prime Minister Lloyd George. A royal procession along Pall Mall to Buckingham Palace draws massive crowds amid flags, aircraft, and celebratory gun salutes. Wilson’s Dover stop includes harbor scenes, speeches, and formal welcomes before continuing to the capital.
In Neufchatel on Christmas Eve 1918 five thousand American soldiers gathered to hear Margaret Wilson, wife of Woodrow Wilson, sing during a wartime morale event. The scene reflected holiday spirit amid the Allied front.
President Wilson, en route to Calais, praised American troops after a 10 000 strong review near Chaumont. He called them fellow countrymen and hinted at a New Year speech, while observers saw clear paths toward peace objectives. Nearly 100 people reported killed in Berlin street battles that began Tuesday morning. The revolt draws more sailors from Kiel joining the unrest and protesters clashing with authorities across the city.
London reports from Berlin indicate the Alexander regiments and sailors have joined a revolt, with the entire garrison potentially backing the rebels. Soldiers, civilians, and guards clash. royal palaces and public buildings are seized as Ledebour and Liebknecht emerge as key figures challenging Ebert and Haase.
London December 25 government troops occupy Berlin palace and royal stables after mutinous sailors hoisted the white flag and surrendered under guard according to dispatches received via the Reuter Telegraph correspondent in Amsterdam.

The state board of education weighs changing the word shall to may in school law to allow towns to use deserted school houses again. George Cutler of Moretown was struck by a breaking binder pole while loading hay. He died in Heaton hospital after surgery for a fractured skull, aged 41, leaving a wife and four children. He had lived in Moretown about six years, formerly from Stowe, where a sister resides. He worked as a teamster for Ward Lumber Company.
Glenugians held their annual Christmas banquet in Clan Gordon hall with Charles Keith as master of ceremonies. The evening featured a welcome address, vocal and instrumental numbers, Highland dancing, toasts to absent members and the club, and a grand late night dance. Committee members included Mrs Keith and James Massie with Charles Keith as chairman.

A Montpelier man knocked off a leaking gas jet in a Lane hone cellar and lit a match, causing a fire that was subdued by firemen before major damage. The incident occurred shortly before 11 o'clock in the morning. a fight with gas led to a blaze on the ceiling. The workers and employers had discussed a job agreement while gas leaked. No injuries or large property loss reported.
Outwardly dreary Barre welcomed Christmas with rain and gloom yet held heartfelt service at St. Monica's. Hundreds attended the midnight mass led by Rev. Fr. Meskenna, while churches filled with worshippers and soldiers. Merchants reported strong business, shops remained open, and holiday offerings by parishioners were notably large.
Last evening at Park Street the couple celebrated their 26th wedding anniversary with a surprise party for Mr. and Mrs. Stewart hosted by a committee. About 40 guests attended sharing vocal solos instruments, a cake and ice cream, and a silver gift from the clergyman marking 25 years since the ceremony.
In Barre this forenoon Mix Flin N Mcdonald daughter of Mr and Mrs N A McDonald of Lhaniteville and William Mayo Lynde of Burbank Utah were married by Rev Rod Lehigh with a simple ring ceremony. There were no attendants. Afterward the couple hosted dinner at the bride’s home and plan to depart for Utah. Lynde, a nurse, recently graduated from Barre City hospital and worked with a hospital in Almonte Utah. Lynde is from Williamstown. both families are respected locally.
