Gordon Institute added a recitation room in the old chapel enabling 600 pupil capacity and enrollment climbs. Barnesville newsroom notes dog tagging, new city offices, improved Mitchell's hill, housing demand, and local hires as Pike County Court nears.
The piece extols Mr. A. Bennett as one of Georgia’s busiest men, with many contracts and swift action. A Gordon Institute graduate, he is praised for teaching potential, and is presented as a splendid, useful citizen for Barnesville.
The Stafford-Huguley Hosiery Co. has moved from the Murphey building to a new brick building on Market street and will resume operations in a few days. The plant, a major Barnesville employer, is running day and night and plans to expand capacity after the move. Barnesville Medicine Co. also relocates to the Murphey building and prepares to manufacture Kings Royal Germetuer products and related items as offices are set up.
Mr. W P Davis purchased the Johnathan Milner farm north of Barnesville and will take possession next year. John W Davis of Putnam county, father of W P Davis, will move to the farm soon. The family will bring about fifty Jerseys from Putnam to Pike to engage in dairying, boosting the local economy and community profile.
Mr W H Smith announces he will join Turner and Prout and repair all kinds of furniture including chairs rockers tables and household items. He invites light work and offers upholstery and re varnishing with satisfactory workmanship.
Henry Brittain the well known salesman son of Dr J M Brittain is now with Douglas and Davison Atlanta He invites Barnesville residents visiting Atlanta to call on him for service His firm carries a large stock of dry goods notions shoes cloaks carpets and crockery
The Southern Musical Convention held a splendid session at Locust Grove last Friday Saturday and Sunday. A good many new members were added and the convention was one of the best in years. Judge E. T. Pound of Barnesville was re elected president and T. J. Williamson was re elected secretary. Both are regarded as good officers.
The Barnesville Chapter requests Daughters of the Confederacy to meet in Mrs. L. K. Rogers’s room at Gordon Institute on Friday afternoon September 17 at 4 o clock. Full attendance requested to plan the upcoming Annual Convention in Augusta. Mrs. L. K. Rogers, President.
