A local retailer offers to slash prices for 30 days promising savings to fund a trip to the Exposition. He urges shoppers to compare with competitors, claims large discounts, and notes he will unload existing stock, staying put after 13 years in business. He vows not to carry over goods to next season.
Deputy Marshals F D Dismuke G F White and G H Thomas captured 8.0 follen and Burnett two illicit distillers from Upson county on a Friday in Pike and Upson counties. They boarded the 9 30 southbound train for Macon to face court on the charges. The arrests come after a raid on the blockade distillery in Upson county and follow prior seizures in Pike Upson and Spalding counties as efforts to curb the illegal whiskey trade continue.
Col. J. J. Rogers installs posts for Barnesville telephone exchange as over fifty phones are ordered. In two or three weeks the system should be fully operational, marking a forward step for the lively Georgia town.
Merchants plan to close for Thanksgiving with advance advertisement. The Gazette will announce the decision after a circulating petition requests closing the entire day. The community has observed the holiday in the past and aims to keep the tradition this year.

Dr. W. A. Wright buys a handsome soda fount to serve the public. It will be installed in a day or two and enhance the store’s appearance. The fount came from Jas W Taft of New York, a major soda firm. Messrs E W Wright and D L Anderson will dispense the soda, aiming for a share of the trade by next spring.
Property listing reads a vacant lot for sale on Thomas Street with inquiries directed to the Gazette office.
On the 17th inst Mr W Herman Means and Miss Alice Sullivan wed near Zebulon. The groom is a prosperous farmer and capable businessman. The bride is a well liked young lady in her community. A small reception followed at Mr J W Means' home in Meansville. The couple has the best wishes of friends.
Local notice offering purchases of cotton at full market price with weighing free. Basket bagging price listed as 65 cents per bunch. Encourages residents to bring their cotton to Barnesville Mra. Co. for immediate payment.
Mr. Robert Mitchell grew a Spanish variety sweet potato two and a half feet long with a six inch girth near the vine and tapering to a small root. It is described as a long potato drawing local notice.
The city council unanimously re elected George L Summers as Chief of the fire department. He is praised as a good fireman who is always present in emergencies and leads effectively against flames.
Barnesville faces a push to install electric lights to reduce accidents around telephone poles. Local sentiment holds lighting would beautify the town. Mr. H. H. Swatts traveled to Macon Monday night to attend a secret order convention.

The Gordon Institute Cadets leave Barnesville at 7 30 this morning for the exposition in Atlanta. About three hundred people accompany them including faculty and residents. Special cars, reduced rates, and block tickets are arranged. return plans depend on group departure.
In a recent speech to colored people Booker Washington urged white listeners to value practical trades over lengthy stump speeches, suggesting learning carpentry dairying truck gardening or contracting as productive paths.
In October 105 buggies shipped from Jackson G. Smith’s shop, the best month yet and possibly a regional record south of the Ohio River. Orders pour in as 100 buggies are under construction and Smith expects continued monthly output despite backlogs.
