A man from the country arrived Saturday after picking cotton all fall. In J C Collier's store he filled his cotton pocket with shirts and was stopped when told to quit. Marshall Martin summoned him to the guard house until Monday when his mother paid him out. The piece notes the man was industrious in this odd fashion.
The piece notes chatter about who will be the next senator from the district. T J Barrett, current representative, is a strong, debated candidate due to broad support. Judge Barrett is also prominently mentioned as a potential successor amid speculation.
The Gazette reports two enormous potatoes from Mr. P. F. Matthews weighing sixteen pounds along with six more totaling fifty one pounds from a single crop of five hundred bushels. The farmer, described as splendid, resides at home. readers are invited to beat the record.
Mr C V Belton of Corpus Christi Texas arrives in Thomaston with two carloads of fine western mules and horses for an auction sale set for Saturday November 22 1890. The ad urges buyers to attend and bid regardless of price.
Judge J. S. Boynton was reelected by the Legislature to the Flint Circuit after Col. L. L. Middlebrooks withdrew. Boynton defeated Judge J. B. Pope by 110 to 101, with Pope showing strong support despite Boynton’s years in office.
