In a lively parade of customers the pretty maid the gallant youth the wise father and the fond mother visit the ROUSS RACKET STORE in Barnesville to buy bargains no other house can offer. The scene emphasizes irresistible offers and a bustling shopping mood.
Emily Verdrey Murphey of Barnesville wed Er Lawshe of New York at Col. A. A. Murphey's residence. The quiet ceremony featured Mendelssohn music, Arch letters L and M, and a reception by kin. The couple left for Atlanta at 5:37 en route to New York their future home.
Sunday afternoon at Mrs. A. C. Whittle’s home Miss Annie Whittle married Prof. A. D. McDowell with Dr. J. M. Brittain officiating. The couple, both Barnesville natives, received warm congratulations from relatives and friends before departing to Canton, North Carolina where McDowell will teach. The Gazette extends best wishes for a long, happy life.
Tuesday at 11 o clock Judge W M Hartley united John Hucka by and Sallie Mercer in marriage. They attended Midway school and eloped to Zebulon for the license. Both are popular in their community and receive many well wishes.
Miss Lizzie Johnstone returns from Atlanta and offers all dressmaking work. She provides advice on spring fabrics and styles and, with her sister Miss Mamie Johnstone, aims to assist customers and welcomes liberal patronage. They are among the finest dressmakers in the state.
The Woman's Club held its regular meeting at Mayor W. B. Smith's residence. Members displayed fancy work from the Art section, enjoyed a mixed program, and planned entertainments to benefit the library. Prof. Oliphant is slated to lecture in April on The Idyls of the King.
Gordon Institute dominates state education and gains public praise as wartime appointments highlight its impact. President McKinley named four Georgians as second lieutenants. three trained at Gordon Institute in Barnesville, including E. J. Williams Titton Charley duBignon Savannah and Graham Johnson Atlanta. The fourth is ex Gov Bullock's son taught by Prof Pound in Atlanta. This record boosts Barnesville pride in Gordon Institute.
A sea of life lines speaks to Dr. Pierce's Golden Medical Discovery as a remedy for serious diseases. A nearby man on his death bed, given up by doctors, began the medicine and recovered, credited to the reforming effects on digestion and liver function.
