A lively scene depicts a pretty maid and a gallant youth visiting the Rouss Racket Store in Barnesville. Shoppers, including a wise father, fond mother, and aged grandshire, flock to purchase bargains said to surpass any other house in town.
Rev W E Mumford founder and president spoke at the Methodist church in Barnesville about the Georgia Industrial Home. A contributions list from local donors was published showing amounts from many residents, totaling several dollars with multiple small gifts and a few larger ones.
Friday evening Miss Edwina Williams hosted a small gathering at Mrs John T Chambers residence on Greenwood Street. The event proved a pleasant social occasion with refreshments that guests praised. Williams is noted as a popular Barnesville young lady.
Rev. W. M. Hunter resigns as pastor of Barnesville and related churches after three years. He accepts a new field at Black Shear, Ga, with half his time there and half as evangelist for the Savannah Presbytery. Barnesville church commends his service and dissolves pastoral relations.
Mr. Ben Ellis moves his cigar factory from Waycross to Barnesville and will soon begin producing Barnesville cigars. The Murphey building rooms have been rented opposite The Gazette office. the factory will operate there with three to six workers. Six brands are made and sold nationwide as Ellis plans expansion.
The regular monthly meeting will be held at Mayor W. B. Smith's residence this Saturday at 3 o'clock. Full attendance is desired to transact important business and enjoy a program by the Art Section.
The city board of education elected Miss Jean Mitchell of Barnesville to succeed Mrs. Gardner in the public schools. A Georgia Female Seminary graduate of 1894 with medals and honors, she has taught in Fayetteville Senoia and other places and is expected to fill the position satisfactorily.
Rev A B Pope of Zebulon has purchased the Concord Enterprise and will edit and publish the paper. He is a writer of ability and is expected to make it an interesting publication. We wish him success.
