Details from a letter to Mrs. L B Veal describe George W. Bishop spake man burial in Barnesville after being bitten in Salisbury Maryland. He died sixteen hours after the bite with fang wounds on a vein. His death follows his risky rat tlesnake exhibition tour in Salisbury and Quantico where he was bitten previously. He was interred at Farson's Cemetery alongside his wife.
Miss Maude Smith and Miss Mary Thurman of Barnesville were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Milton Smith in Griffin last Sunday. An evening salmagundi featured eight tables with games such as fishing, dominoes, hearts, jack straws, parchesi, crorko nole, racing, and tid dlewinks. Prizes went to Mr. W Hugo Johnston and Miss Nell Dismuke with Miss Dismuke winning the ladies prize after a tie with Miss Thurman. Refreshments of ice were served. a large Griffin society guest list attended.
Luke Adams of Upson County has been notified by the War Department of his cadet appointment to West Point secured by Congressman C L Bartlett. An exam at Fort McPherson is planned for March 1896 with a potential June 1896 report to West Point. He will study four years and serve in the Army thereafter if desired.
At midnight Friday Mr. P F Matthews chased a negro thief named Speer as he tried to steal corn from Matthews’s crib. The thief escaped after a shotgun shot was fired. The man has not been seen since. at least fifty bushels were stolen and the crib planks torn.
