The speaker proclaims the winter freezes over and Spring clothing is arriving. He promises adherence to a single cash price for all goods, offering the same manufacturers as big-city shops, cash purchases, and discounts, with no need to travel to Atlanta or other distant markets.
A Barnesville letter to the Gazetter urges merchants to close stores at six. The editors endorse the idea as beneficial for merchants clerks and families noting past success in closing nights and predicting profit and public recreation from an early closing hour.
Work began last Monday on a brick knitting mill to be built on the oil mill site facing the Central railroad. The 50 by 100 foot main building includes a 20 by 20 engine room and is contracted to C H Morris with ample labor expected to speed completion. This new enterprise signals progress and assured growth for Barnesville and its citizens.
Mr J F Hodges will again run the Matthews House for the coming year. The hotel, admired on the Central railroad, aims to keep its high reputation with good fare polite attention and comfortable beds for traveling men and guests. Wishing Hodges success in his second year.
A June 6 1894 Florida marriage took place at the home of H C Price near Orange Lake with Rev T Bishop of Minacaply officiating. Attendants included Miss Gertrude Walker Miss Kate Lamar and several others. An elegant reception followed at the groom’s parents home in McIntosh Florida with many friends in attendance.
The column announces Mr. John L. Banks of Hollenville as a candidate for tax collector of Pike County. Banks is well known in the county and described as a good, patriotic citizen who would make an excellent officer with Democratic support.
Mr. J. L. Alldredge of Meansville announces seeking the Democratic nomination for tax collector. Supporters praise him as competent and worthy, predicting he would make a splendid officer if elected, and urging voters to back him with no regrets.

The fourth annual meeting of the Pike County Veterans Association will be held at Bluff Springs on Thursday July 19. All are invited to attend for a pleasant reunion and a likely large turnout is expected.
