Barnesville enters 1899 with significant growth as contracts are let for five new houses. Emma Guttenberger buys Elm Street lot to build a two story home, Mayor Walter B. Smith buys Greenwood Street lot for a cottage, Dan Smith acquires Brown Avenue lot for a cottage, Dr. C H Perdue plans a large remodel and new residence, and Edgar L Rogers trades parsonage to obtain Forsyth Street lot for a new parsonage.
