Consolidated tax returns for Pike county reveal an increase of 133 090 over last year. Taxable property rises from 2 310 458 to 2 443 448. Tax receiver Mr. Matthews reports satisfaction with the growth and cites a letter from Comptroller General Wright commending his accurate, prompt work.

Mr. T. B. Lyon Heads to Quitman for Cotton Deals

The well known cotton buyer and commission man T. B. Lyon leaves Monday to engage with Quitman Cotton Co in Quitman. He will base his operations there and buy across the surrounding region. Many hope he may later be sent to represent his company locally.

Col Lambdin to Locate in Barnesville for Law Practice

Col Wallace W Lambdin will move his family to Barnesville to practice law. He has been with the Atlanta firm Hillyer Alexander Lambdin, state attorneys for Singer Sewing Machine Co, and Georgia Railroad counsel. The community welcomes him as a respected, capable lawyer returning to his old home.

A refined reception Thursday at Yonah hall honored Mrs. J D Williamson of Waco Texas and Miss Ione Murphey of Barnesville Ga. The receiving party included Mrs. Annie Sanford Cochrane of Gainesville and Mr. Hub Logan. Attire featured Mrs Cochrane in black net over yellow silk, Mrs Williamson in pink taffeta with sweet peas, Murphey in light blue silk with cerise trim.

Hon J B Hunnicutt will speak at Lifsey’s Springs on Saturday August 12 at 11 o’clock a m. Everyone is invited to attend. He is described as a practical entertaining Georgia speaker and his address is expected to be productive.

Corry and Pitts Marriage Announced for August

An Atlanta Journal notice reads of the upcoming marriage of Dr. John Alexander Corry and Miss Allene Pitts. The ceremony will be August 14 at the Pitts family home in Newborn, Georgia, performed by Rev. E Giddings Smith. Pitts, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John L. Pitts, is Wesleyan educated. Corry, formerly of Greensboro, recently began practicing in Barnesville. The couple will honeymoon in North Georgia and reside with Mr. John L. Pives upon return.

The evening at Mr. Edgar L. Rogers house featured Miss May Agnes Kelley performing Enoch Arden and several musical numbers. Proceeds from the event benefited the local library fund.

Woman thrown from buggy at Matthews Hotel incident

Monday afternoon Miss Belle Murphey was tripped as she exited a buggy at the Matthews Hotel. She fainted but quickly recovered with only a minor left arm injury reported, though initial fears of serious harm followed the fall.

Boot blacks in altercation lead to barber struck by rock

Two boot blacks argued one evening. barber P. M. Edwards intervened to separate them. A participant struck Edwards in the head with a rock, fracturing his skull and laying him up. He has shown some improvement and may recover.
