Barnard and Columbia Debaters Plan New Season

Barnard and Columbia debaters convened at a smoker led by Professor Robert Carey to outline the season. Leaders Jim Shavett and Florence Federman announced plans including WKCR radio debates, West Point weekend, and fall tournaments on the topic of free trade.

Barnard Columbia Farm Forms Group to Help Wagner

A new campus group at Barnard and Columbia works to support Robert J. Wagner Jr. in the NYC mayoral race. The independent student volunteers will handle sound tracks and literature distribution outlining Wagner's qualifications and platform. Students may join via Jake or contact Gloria Barry through Student Mail.

Scholarship Fund Supports Spanish Student at Barnard

Barnard’s Spanish department funds ongoing scholarships to bring Spanish girls to study. Activities include a $1,000 from last year’s Spanish play and $1,831.17 from a contemporary Spanish paintings exhibit, totaling $4,065.97 so far. The fund, named for Carolina Marcial Dorado, was begun last February with a goal of $25,000 endowment. If no eligible Spain applicant exists, a Spanish major may receive the scholarship.
