Equal Rights Amendment debate splits Barnard Forum
Miss Mabel Vernon of the National Woman's Party argued for the ERA at Barnard's Forum Luncheon. On March 16 Miss Rose Schneiderman of the National Women's Trade Union League opposed the amendment, warning it would repeal state protections on minimum wages hours and conditions. The League favors protective labor laws while the Party argues for unrestricted freedom of contract. The discussion notes a clash over women’s economic rights and agency.
