The fragment lists editors and staff of a 1916 publication with roles such as Editor-In-Chief Dorette Ferandié, Business Manager Lucy Morgenthau, and Managing Editors Sarah Butler Agnes Conklin Mima Herzfeld Isabel Totten Margaret Pollitzer, plus assistants Beulah Amidon Cora Senner Carol Weiss Edith Grossman Elinore Morehouse Tacy Porter and Elinore Sachs across departments like Dramatic and Literary Humorous Religious and College News.
The notice states a mailing entry date of October 11st, 1908, at the New York Post Office under the 1897 act. It records official classification and regulatory filing as required by postal law for periodical distribution.
The piece recalls students rushing into a burning University Hall to save athletic trophies as manuscripts burned. It argues athletics shape college life, urging restraint and prioritizing academic study over trophies, while calling for reflective critique of academic culture and faculty responsibility.
The text argues that students deserve a share in organizing the work producing returns, linking responsibility with interest and urging cooperation and initiative to foster a responsible attitude toward academics.
Provost William T Brewster argues for separating student council from faculty duties to curb athletic participation by students in poor academic standing. He also suggests publishing the letter to prompt discussion.
A 1915 class meeting on December 1 discussed appointing the Senior Week sub committee chair by Ray Levi and senior Student Council members rather than by the class vote. The motion, after heated debate, passed as part of the special business.
Testa December 8th features a Bee Tea for seniors and a Classical Club meeting with Professor McCrea speaking. December 10th hosts a 1916 1917 party in the theatre. December 11th offers Wings and Cues Play Marlowe at 8 PM. December 12th presents IEE and Cues Play Marlowe 8 PM. December 14th Dr Coffin speaks at Y M C A in Room 139.
