Barnard Bulletin is issued semi weekly during the college year by Barnard College students for the Undergraduate Association. It is entered as second class matter October 19 1925 at the Pas Office New York NY under the act of March 3 1879. Subscription rate is 3.50 per year with single copies at 10 cents.
The Bear magazine funding and the Undergraduate Student Activities Fee SAF dominated a Representative Assembly vote. A two dollar raise failed in class referendums and a separate one dollar increase passed, defended as more democratic by the Assembly.
Wigs and Cues presents Oliver Goldsmith comedy She Stoops to Conquer at Brinkerhoff. The Barnard cast features Elizabeth Hanna and Ann Atheling with Dorothy Sands directing, costuming evokes 18th century England, tickets are 50 cents for students and one dollar for guests.
Carol Leni, a New Yorker and Barnard student, is described as a dynamic junior class president with a background in theater modeling and dramatics. She has performed in Greek Games and the Glee Club, studied music, and held jobs at Macy’s and the Columbia Library.
Louise Burr Gerrard, Assistant in Government at Barnard, rose from Chicago roots to study sociology and political science at the University of Chicago. She and her husband Nathan Louis Gerrard, a labor economist, once canvassed for Paul Douglas and later moved to Washington before settling in New York. At Barnard she connects with students, advocates ongoing political engagement, and mentors by example. The Gerrards’ New York apartment with a charcoal fireplace hosts discussions on public law, government, and current events as Gerrard pursues a Columbia doctorate.
The Term Drive Committee explains the early 368 dollar report did not reflect total support for UNICEF appeal. College groups participated with enthusiasm and Carnival success despite a two and a half week window and unforeseen issues. The drive trusted individuals to contribute as they could and praised many student efforts while noting some indifference in a large group.
