Former Local Editor Luckow Dies in Battle Creek
Edward L. Luckow longtime Sauk County Democrat editor and Baraboo mayor died Sunday at Battle Creek Michigan after gall trouble and an operation. He was born April 27 1866 and had served as navy department auditor in Washington. His death shocked Baraboo friends as he had recently sought health care after leaving the capital city posting. He was a prominent Democrat who campaigned for Wilson and served in many party and press positions.

Longtime Baraboo Resident Johnson Dies at 84
Johnson a Baraboo mainstay for decades died Sunday evening at his home 1325 East Street after about a week of illness. Born June 18 1841 in Cass County Michigan he moved to Baraboo with his parents at three months old arriving September 18 1841. The Johnson family traveled from Michigan behind black French horses no railroads existing then. They settled near the Lawrence Siebecker home near Maxwell Dam with Baraboo mostly home to him.

Ralph Reynolds of Lodi won all first and grand championship awards for Shorthorn cattle at the state fair. He leaves a West Bend sister and brother, two nieces in St Paul, with funeral at West Bend and burial beside his parents. Mr Luckow described as affable and rich in friends. If operation succeeded he would visit Baraboo soon to enjoy the region of his life. Mr Dithmar will attend the funeral.

First Railway Train Entered Baraboo Fifty Years Ago
Baraboo marked the rail arrival on September 12 1871 with a grand celebration. A temporary arch across the track, a reception, a procession, and two hours of speeches toasted the Air Line’s joining with the Northwestern. Notables like Gen James H Howe and Gov Lucius Fairchild spoke as crowds cheered the first train to Baraboo at Crawford’s bridge.

Remains of Baraboo WWI veteran returned home
Edwin Cummings son of Mrs. Katherine Cummings arrived from Hoboken New Jersey and was honored with a military funeral. Ex soldiers and American Legion members accompanied the remains to St Josephs church and Baraboo cemetery. The Baraboo business community observed a mourning closure.

Saleman Slain and Missing Aide Linked to Adams Visit
Chicago salesman Bernard Daugherty was found murdered in the Des Plaines River near Maywood. A suspect, H. W. Church, 20, was arrested in Adams after a visit to his father, tied to the case and the disappearance of another salesman Carl Ausmus. Police fear Ausmus may also be dead as searches continue along the river.

Wellington Hotel Change of Ownership Reported
L. E. Bohlman of Manston has purchased the Wellington hotel and took possession today. E. J. Beranek, who came from Richland county, had owned it for one year and nine days. The Beraneks moved to the Mauston farm with their child, while Bohlman, formerly of Elroy, brings his family to reside at the hotel. The Lueth Brothers established the hotel, which has long enjoyed wide patronage.

Chicago youth confesses to double murder in garage
Harvey W. Church, a 20 year old indicted in the Dougherty and Ausmus killings, broke after 12 hours of questioning and confessed to slayings single handedly. Police say another person was named but no name given. Ausmus' body later found buried in Church garage, tying him to the Dougherty case.
