A Baraboo fair night featured a 110 foot plunge into a water tank by Captain Jack Payne, illuminated tanks and a broad fireworks display. Waunakee defeated Adams 7 to 0 in a baseball game while fair events including athletic contests and vaudeville ran through Friday rain.
A Chicago pair, A. H. Friese and W. J. Kacinski, piloted a Ford sedan from Chicago last October on a cross country trip to New York Washington the Carolinas New Orleans Atlanta Texas the Pacific coast and back to St Paul. They arrived in Kilbourn last Sunday morning with a mileage total of 25 476 miles and beds improvised in the car for overnight stops.
A small hurricane and heavy rain hit Portage. Ernest Zastrow's De Haviland aircraft toppled from a field on the Marcellon road near the old Fort Winnebago cemetery and crashed, breaking the propeller and destroying the plane. Widespread damage included blown trees and a roof detachment. no insurance yet, with fair engagements planned.

The report notes horse races were absent at the fair for the first time in association history, with only a rare exception in recent years. Baraboo plans to replace races with alternative amusements.
A $250000 shell-shock memorial hospital for servicemen, built at Farwell's Point near Mendota, will open with five barracks and a main 80 bed building by spring. About 140 patients are currently housed, with 20 new admissions monthly and 15 discharges. Major F W Lorenz, in charge, emphasizes care, hydro therapy, an on-site vocational school, and four times state daily costs, funded by the federal government.
In 1877 Baraboo residents discuss William Fox grape trade and a local spirit band leader injuring his foot while chopping wood. The Methodist ladies meet Mrs. William Lawson and farmers report wheat and potato crops, with grains praised for flavor. Rev. Irish cites church work and membership gains. Albee, with community memory of a long-running Monday musicales and burial at Arlington.
Mr and Mrs Crowdy who run a stand at the Fair grounds were robbed Friday night at the Dieter home where they roomed. About 509 dollars plus a ten dollar gold piece were stolen from a pillow, while other belongings remained undisturbed. Entrance was gained by cutting a screen window near a street light. tracks led to the window and no clues have been found yet.
Miss Harriet Sanner, about fifty, died of heart disease Saturday night near Geneva Illinois while traveling from Baraboo to Ontario California with Miss Matilda E Real. She had cataracts and limited sight and planned to live with her sister in California. Her brother in law J B Donovan escorted the body to Waukesha for burial with relatives.
Return of fairgoers to Portage finds fire in the Savidusky Dye House just after 2 15 in the morning. An ironing board is the only reported loss. The Savidusky firm operates a Baraboo branch.
Word arrives of the death of Mathew Reuland at Green Bay where he lived three years after leaving Baraboo. He ran the Beaumont hotel elevator in Green Bay and previously ran a blacksmith shop in Baraboo. Born in Luxemburg on Oct 17 1846 he came to the U S at age seven and settled in Sauk County. He married Julia Derleth in May 1872 and is survived by wife and children Gustave of Reedsburg Elizabeth and Leo of Green Bay. another son George died last winter.
Wisconsin cities back one man street cars for safety and economy as fares drop. C M Larson of the Wisconsin railroad commission reports 15 new cars in Milwaukee and 14 on Oshkosh lines.
More Italians than Germans obtained naturalization certificates in August totaling 16 481 recipients.
The Wisconsin State case against Frank Johnson ended with a guilty verdict for the jury at 4 30 after he visited Bethal Francois from 1919 to 1920 and the child born in July 1920 was kept out of the courtroom. Penalty to be fixed later. Other matters include foreclosures, a child visitation order, a guilty plea with a $50 fine, and a moonshine arrest connected to the Spoonholtz farm. A $120 damages verdict awarded to Paul Good for missing sheep and dog injury follows. An injury case involving Earl Squires and William Brown ends in a special verdict on expenses and care.
