Labor Day Gala in Baraboo Draws 5000 for Legion Fest
Baraboo hosts Labor Day celebrations led by the American Legion with a morning parade headed by Mayor Andre. Prizes awarded for floats including Eastern Star first, Skillet Creek second, and W. R. C. third. Afternoon program features a 5 mile motorcycle race won by George Cooper, plus speeches by M. B. Oldrich on soldier bonuses and justice to the soldiers. Accident on Warner Road in Walnut Street Hill Collision
On a Saturday night an automobile driven by Attorney W G Evenson collided with a buggy carrying Mr and Mrs Louis Martin and Miss Alma Martin on Warner Memorial road near a curve. Miss Alma Martin suffered a broken nose and facial injuries while Mrs Martin escaped unharmed. Daniel J Roberts was a passenger in the car. The buggy occupants reported no lights, car lights failing. The attorney proposed to settle damages. Martin recently had prior vehicle trouble after lending a vehicle for a wheel breakage on the same road.

Trail Named Through Sauk County and Baraboo
The Black and Yellow trail is marked through Sauk County and Baraboo along route 12 to route 21. L. H. Hill of the Warren House marks trail endpoints in Baraboo and north toward Manston. A Tracy Minnesota meeting approved extending the trail through Baraboo, from Chicago to Yellowstone Park, with Portage lobbying to include it.

Fire damages Port Edwards lumber yard and wood yard complex
A high wind fanned flames that scorched houses within two blocks as fire swept through the Neekoosa-Edwards Paper company wood yards at Port Edwards near Wisconsin Rapids. Estimated damage exceeds $300,000.

Legion celebration at fair grounds draws larger crowd
Blind singer selected the numbers while Mayor Adolph Andre announced at the fair grounds. District Attorney H. J. Bohn introduced speaker M. B. Olbrich. Last year Rank & File held a similar event raising about $1000. this year the Legion celebration was even more successful. George Carpenter pleased with the Skillet Creek float prize but laments judges did not sample his hot dog sandwiches.

Canning Season Closes At Herfort Canning Co
The Herfort Canning company ends its season with about 33 000 cases of peas and 33 000 cases of corn produced. Peas runs about half normal and corn about three fourths previous year. Domestic peas total 8 000 000 this year vs 14 000 000 last year. Crop reductions may push prices up. Local firm ran out of cans and moved ten tons of corn into silos to save space.

Court fines in Andro court for wine theftes and wage suit
Leonard Hutter Martin Meister and Herbert Swartz paid fines of 10.00 and costs 13.25 each for taking three jugs of wine from Albert Thering. The Plain area residents faced wage suit by Grant Francisco versus Albert Hansch. decision favored the defendant. Four Plain youths charged with drunkenness were fined 5.00 and costs 16.04 each.

Car thieves sentenced in La Crosse case
A B Warren and Heron Wyman received four year terms at Waupun while Mazie DeVries received two years for multiple Wisconsin car thefts. One stolen vehicle belonged to George Hakin of Baraboo. District Attorney H J Bohn uncovered the theft after accidentally finding a crew, leading to the thieves’ tracing. The trio traded a car several times en route to La Crosse where arrests and sentences followed.

Mrs Lydia Hulbert a Sauk County centenarian died Friday morning at her Delton home aged 100 She was born August 26 1821 in New York and married Shadrick Hulbert They lived in Delton since 1867 Survivors include sons Frank and Jas M Hulbert Herbert H Eastman and others with 13 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Electric shock death near Second Avenue home
