Sauk County Sunday School Convention Held in Reedsburg

Sauk County Sunday-schools from all denominations gathered in Reedsburg for their annual convention. Miss Elsie Thornton of La Valle serves as corresponding secretary with about fifty schools reporting representation. Prof H E Mansfield presides as association president. The program included addresses, department conferences, and debates on graded and uniform lessons. A mass meeting featured Prof J W Warne and Rev J E Cooke. The event moved to the Presbyterian church due to Baptist church repairs.

Fire in Reedsburg Manse Briefly Damages Presbyterian Home

A fire at the Presbyterian manse in Reedsburg caused minor damage shortly after noon Thursday. The blaze occurred at Rev. S. N. Wilson's home. Mrs. G. H. Nodolf and daughter Marguerite of Conde, South Dakota, visited Bellemont then left for their western home after a brief city stop. Carrie Nodolf of Bellemont also traveled with them as far as Baraboo.

Letter from Baraboo woman describes San Diego trip and hotel life

Eliza Chapman reports a letter from Clara L. Taylor of San Francisco about a visit to San Diego. The note praises the U. S. Grant Hotel, its lobby concerts, dining rooms, and distinctive pages' uniforms. It mentions San Diego Bay views, Point Loma, La Jolla, the old mission ruins, Coronado and the Del Coronado hotel, plus regional sights and a large outdoor organ funded by a local benefactor.

J E Carncross from Lodi Wisconsin stands as a major shipper to Chicago stockyards. A lifelong farmer with a five son and one daughter family, he concentrates on buying and selling cattle and hogs with honest methods. He recently settled accounts for two carloads sold through the National Live Stock Commission company.

South Side Social Center Meeting Highlights

A well attended South Side Social Center club gathering featured S. E. Wakefield as president leading songs, solos by Miss Cecil Harvey and Miss Gertrude Morse, and readings by Mrs. E Gottwinkel. A Practical Education talk by A. C. Kingsford and remarks by M. J. Coughlin followed. Members judged a cake and doughnut contest with ribbons awarded to several cooks. Refreshments and prize cakes were served. The final meeting of the year may include an old-fashioned spelling bee.

New Health Board Order Targets Fair Exhibitions

Sauk County Agriculture society secretary A. S. Pelton received a copy of the health notice sent to fair secretaries. Exhibitions must follow sanitary rules with waiters in white, covered food, and protections against flies and dust. Steps will be taken to comply with the state board.

Wind Storm Dazes Dell Prairie Residents

A weeklong wind storm swept western states with Dell Prairie hit hardest. Elder resident Gus Thayer says he never saw such wind as grain blew up, sand filled fields, and drifts buried roads making movement impossible. Kilbourn Events.

New Church At Reedsburg Opens With First Services

The United Brethren start initial services in a newly completed chapel on Oak Street Reedsburg. Rev Bechtoit of Lime Ridge will preside. A larger church may be built later on West Main and West Avenue, with current services in the temporary tabernacle.

Plows His Farm at Eighty Years Old in Wisconsin

G A Stevens and wife left Poynette for a farm in Pacific County, Columbia county. George plans to farm himself, still able to drive a team to plow 18 acres and haul about thirty loads of manure in eight to nine days. They will keep their Poynette home and travel between properties.

George Henry has purchased an interest in the Frank Mueller drug store at Reedsburg and has begun his duties. He formerly worked for Muller and, after attending a pharmacy school in St. Paul, returns to the old stand with friendly, trusted service.
